SUMMARY: Provides in-service training and assists with the professional development of all staff members by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Duties include but are not limited to: proper training and testing of CNA applicants, documenting and supervising of CNA training, coordinating with state testing agencies to ensure testing is timely and compliant. Presents or ensures presentation of mandated subjects to relevant staff. Maintains in-service attendance records on all staff. Ensures all staff has the opportunity to meet in-service requirements. Participates in orientation of new personnel, ensures timely performance of CNA, QMA, and nurse skill checks. Ensures that all nursing aide trainees are under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Develops and maintains a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility, to ensure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Monitors nursing care. Duties include but are not limited to: ensuring residents are treated properly with kindness, dignity, respect, and in privacy. Ensuring that nursing direct care staff understand resident responsibilities and rights, such as the right to refuse treatment; ensures staff refusal of treatment comport with advance directives.
  • Safety and reporting. Reports allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property. Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents. In an emergency, carries out assigned responsibilities to assure resident and employee safety.
  • Reviews the residents’ care plans for appropriate resident goals, problems, approaches, and revisions based on nursing needs. Assists with MDS/Care Plan process as assigned by Director of Nursing.
  • Per facility and regulatory requirements, ensures proper documentation is maintained.
  • In an emergency, carries our assigned duties to assure resident and employee safety.
  • Regularly assists with development and update of staff development policies and procedures to reflect the philosophy of the facility, professional standards, and legal requirements.
  • Maintains and applies current skills and knowledge through continuing education and in-service programs.
  • Participates with Executive Director/designee in survey processes, including but not limited to: instructing staff regarding conduct and disclosure; being present at all times surveyors are on-site; directing prompt responses to requests for information; collaborating with Executive Director/designee to develop responses to survey report as needed; undertaking corrective action, if appropriate.
  • Carries out responsibilities in compliance with federal, state, local laws and regulations, and with facility philosophy, policies, and procedures.
  • This position requires the ability to read and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from residents, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community; the ability to present information to management effectively; and the ability to speak, understand and read the English language to the extent necessary to safely and properly care for residents.
  • This position requires excellent interpersonal skills with high level of energy and enthusiasm; good verbal and written communication skills; and the ability to organize, document, and implement detailed programs.
  • This position requires standing, sitting, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds or more, bending, climbing, twisting upper body, walking, running, carrying, listening, talking, use of telephone, and exposure to medical equipment and persons with risk of illness.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Stand in supervisory duties include team leader and charge nurse and/or other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Nursing Degree or completion of nursing program. Meets state and federal requirements.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: RN or LPN license per facility requirements.

Must have COVID-19 vaccination, subject to legal requirements.
