Radiology Imaging Director – Starling Physicians – Wethersfield, CT

Starling Physicians is seeking full-time Radiology Imaging Director.

The Radiology Imaging Director is directly responsible for the department including personnel, equipment, supplies, and planning. Implementing, directing and supervising the technical activities of the Radiology Department. The Director will provide leadership, technical support, and ensure regulatory compliance within the department. The Director will collaborate with Radiologist, Physicians, Staff, and other Directors to ensure safe patient care and patient access to clinical service.

The Radiology Director will plan, organize, and direct the day-to-day activities and functions of the Department including exceptional financial practice and all activities related to staffing, work assignments, hiring, termination, performance reviews, and development.

Key Accountabilities

1. Financial

  • Oversees the deposit of daily receivables.
  • Oversees the preparation and monitoring of annual/monthly department budget expenses.
  • Reviews all financial reporting tools and identifies revenue enhancement opportunities, expense reduction opportunities, makes necessary changes and/or reviews trends with providers in department(s).
  • Prepares department budget annually, managing expenditure of funds and adjust departmental operations within budget limitations. Monitor billing and reimbursement.
  • Complete and submit proformas for capital equipment once need is determined.

2. Personnel

  • Supervises Technologists and Radiologists if applicable, and office staff.
  • Develops departmental quality control/assurance mechanisms which ensure agreed standards of quality for departmental services.
  • Oversees onboarding and training of new employees.
  • Screens resumes, interviews prospective hires and recommends candidates for employment.
  • Coordinate’s personnel assignments and duties and recommends changes as needed.
  • Evaluates staff performance and coordinates annual review/salary increase with corporate office.
  • Approves timecards and forwards time allocation to corporate office if applicable.
  • Reviews and approves requests for Paid Time Off and obtains determines need for float staff to cover staffing gaps.
  • Organizes regular meetings for staff, sets agenda, records minutes and hold staff accountable for the information.
  • Enforces all company policies, coordinates any necessary corrective actions with Human Resources.
  • Responsible for ensuring any new provider to the department(s) is appropriately onboarded by following organizational protocol.

3. Equipment and Supplies

  • Recommends and discusses with leadership any requests for new equipment.
  • Supervises any repairs/maintenance of existing equipment.
  • Works with NPS to ensure efficient, uninterrupted electronic processes are in place and outdated equipment is refreshed.
  • Coordinates ordering supplies with the corporate office.
  • Maintains supply records.

4. Liaison with Corporate Administration

  • Meets regularly with Radiologists and Technologists to discuss operational practice issues. Provides agenda and records minutes.
  • Report periodically to leadership on the operation of the department and keeps them informed of the important matters affecting department operations.
  • Communicates with corporate office all management concerns.
  • Attends and participates in regularly scheduled Practice Managers meeting.
  • May provide leadership for peer group in areas of expertise or interest, i.e., OSHA, staff training on a new system, implementing a new policy or process.
  • May be responsible for organizational projects when asked by Administration.

5. Electronic Health Records and Practice Management Systems

  • Proficient in using the Allscripts Enterprise application to most effectively manage clinical operations and represent providers’ needs.
  • Proficient in GE’s Centricity Practice Management application for scheduling and billing.
  • Establish and coordinate provider and patient schedules including on-call schedules, schedule changes.
  • Supports EHR Department and responsible to ensure providers are trained on all upgrades to systems and new systems.

6. Operations

  • Oversee and collaborate with the Marketing Representative to ensure continued growth with current referring physicians and continued growth in securing prospective referring physician practices.
  • Initiate contact with referring physicians in order to maintain open lines of communication, solicit opinions and input regarding services being provided
  • Determines procedural frequencies to ensure optimum productivity of department / equipment to ensure high quality patient care.
  • Optimize patient flow and patient access.
  • Monitor and evaluate application and quality of new equipment.
  • Responsible for reporting monthly operational, performance, access and customer satisfaction.
  • Meet with Radiologist and staff to discuss any negative feedback from patients and devise a plan to improve patient experience.
  • Ensures efficiency in patient scheduling and recommends plans to increase patient volume through scheduling coordination.

7. Accounts Receivable

  • Reviews monthly reports of Accounts Receivable, physicians billing totals and practice statistics and provides key metrics to providers.
  • Reviews all delinquent accounts monthly.
  • Supervises all debit and credit adjustments for patient accounts with billing staff.

8. Audit Controls

  • Reviews and supervise internal systems for handling cash and all receipts.
  • Monitor’s quality assurance controls and meet with physicians regarding audits for medical records.

9. Office Facilities

  • Interacts with building management and responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment in department(s).
  • Responsible for ensuring staff adhere to Starling safety standards in the department setting.

10. Radiology Dept Practice

  • Plans and implement the overall diagnostic imaging policies, procedures, and services which may include nuclear medicine, MRI, CAT scan, Ultrasound, and PACS administration.
  • Extensive knowledge of radiology department process.

11. Other

  • Maintains provider’s current licenses, CME’s, Provider ID, and other necessary credentials for department Radiologists and Technologists.
  • Markets and promotes the practice.
  • Attends appropriate seminars to further relevant knowledge and resources.
  • Works effectively within the organization by cost-effective utilization of resources within own control to help ensure overall profitability.
  • Assesses patient complaints and other related customer service issues and responds/refers appropriately.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Adheres to OSHA regulations.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Relationships (Reports to, Supervises)

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, providers, staff, peer group, Corporate administration, EHR and other internal departments, computer services provider, and vendors.
  • Supervises Practice staff including Clinical Supervisor, Medical Assistants, Patient Service Representatives, Administrative Assistant, and others.

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Additional Skills & Requirements)

  • College degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of management experience in a radiology office required.
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and good math skills.
  • Excellent writing and keyboarding skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and physicians.
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a team and to share responsibilities and duties.
  • Ability to resolve interpersonal conflict in a straightforward and timely manner.
  • Ability to set priorities, be organized and be a self-starter.
  • Ability to be friendly, empathic and an adept communicator.

Working Conditions, Physical Requirements

  • Able to perform duties within various clinical settings and workspaces.
  • Incumbent may be required to work at any facility based on operation need, and schedule may vary.
  • Travel to various practice locations will require ability to drive, valid driver’s license and use of own reliable transportation.
  • Physical activity will include walking, standing, and sitting.
  • Physical demands may also include lifting and carrying equipment up to 30 lbs.
  • Other physical requirements include speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes; vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc.; and good manual dexterity.
