What You’ll Be Doing:

The Operating Room Supervisor is responsible ensuring efficient operation of the Operating Room by serving as a liaison between management and a selected group of surgeons representing a specialty area. The Operating Room Supervisor will maintain an advanced level of knowledge regarding their specialty area, and serve as a front line leader to others working in the area through orientation, training, and education regarding specialty surgical care.


The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Work with the manager and Charge Nurse on the supervision of various personnel actions including, but not limited to performance with the specialty, assignments, input on evaluations, etc
  • Participate in the interview process for new hires
  • Support the manager and Operating Room Educator on new employee orientation efforts
  • Serve on the Operating Room Governance Council to make QI and staff satisfaction improvement recommendations
  • Assist with group and team education
  • Coordinate and process specialty physician requests to meet their equipment/supply/service needs and reports to staff any changes
  • Inventory service specific supplies and maintain adequate levels per specified par levels
  • Develop and maintain extensive knowledge of surgeons’ needs and protocols with the assigned specialty area
  • Create, maintain, and update preference cards within the given specialty
  • Research new technology of the specialty area and provide updates to staff as necessary
  • Scrub or circulate cases within assigned specialty areas, and troubleshoot specialty instruments/equipment
  • Assist in the preparation of capital equipment recommendations, and generate service supply requests within time and financial constraints
  • Develop and maintain effective working relations with co-workers in other departments of the hospital to ensure ongoing quality of care and service
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For and What We Offer:

  • Either a Registered Nurse or Certified Surgical Technician
  • If a Nursing background, Associate’s Degree in Nursing required
  • If a Nurse, current NJ Registered Nurse license required; if a Surgical Technician, certification required including BLS certification
  • If a Nurse, CNOR certification preferred
  • If a Nurse, at least 3 years of clinical experience preferred; if a Certified Surgical Technician at least 2 years of experience in a scrubbing and/or circulating role preferred Bachelor’s in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in related field required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ of clinical healthcare experience required, preferably in acute care
  • Strong problem solving and/or decision making skills
  • Ability to make independent decisions
  • Ability to react and perform under strict timelines and/or emergency situations
