Behavioral Health Specialist II – BHOP – Fairfax County Government – Fairfax, VA

Under the direction of the Turning Point Supervisor, this position is responsible for the provision and coordination of clinical care for individuals aged 16-30 who are within two years of experiencing the onset of non-affective psychosis. Using a shared-decision making framework, the primary clinician is responsible for a range of clinical interventions, including the provision of individual and group therapies, psychos-education on psychosis, skills training, and case management. Coordinates multi-disciplinary interventions for a caseload, provides Initial Resilience Training, cognitive behavioral therapy for psychosis, co-leads individual and family psychoeducation groups, and conducts ongoing assessment, differential diagnosis, and assists with transitioning to community-based activities and services. Services are provided in the office and other community settings. Participates in ongoing outreach and engagement (with potential participants and referral parties) and assists with initial eligibility assessments.


BONUS:
This position includes a signing bonus for new county employees in the amount of $2,000 (full-time).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, nursing, counseling or a related field, plus one year of clinical experience or bachelor’s degree and a valid Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) certification plus one year of clinical experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
None.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background, Child Protective Services Registry check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire.

This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified as a QMHP or QMHP Case Manager
  • Licensed in Commonwealth of Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Experience with Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) program model
  • Experience with interventions specific to the Early Intervention for Psychosis(EPI)/First Episode Psychosis (FEP)
  • Experience with Individual Resiliency Training (IRT)
  • Experience working with transition age youth (late adolescent to young adult)
  • Bilingual or multilingual in English and another language


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is located in community and office. Ability to independently transport self to fulfill duties at various sites. Ability to observe, process and document clinical information and make clinical interventions. Ability to access, input, and retrieve computer data. May require some lifting less than 25 pounds. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
