Regional Director of Air Quality – Northeast & Mid-Atlantic – Groundwater & Environmental Services – Boston, MA

Groundwater & Environmental Services, Inc. (GES), an industry leader with a reputation for excellence in providing environmental consulting, engineering, compliance, and technical field services to clients in diverse market sectors, seeks a Regional Director of Air Quality to lead air quality efforts.

Our Regional Director of Air Quality will be responsible for the expansion, management, and execution of air quality consulting projects, focusing on permitting, compliance, regulatory and policy issues, and greenhouse gas/carbon emissions/sustainability services in support of our existing Oil & Gas, Utility, Chemical and Manufacturing clients. This position is also responsible for expanding our air quality services across the Northeast & Mid-Atlantic regions.

This role is an excellent opportunity for someone with technical expertise, strategic vision, an entrepreneurial approach, and the ability to leverage industry connections, while working with other leaders within the environmental sector.

This position can be 100% remote, but our preference is for our selected candidate to be based in one of the following states: Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, or New Jersey. Travel for company, client, and regulatory meetings is required as needed.


Position Expectations:

  • Applies industry knowledge to lead initiatives that support air quality service line growth, sales, and project execution for our Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
  • Serves as a senior internal resource for all air quality project work managed within the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions though project location may be nationwide.
  • Provides senior level review and input to help ensure that technical goals, regulatory requirements, client objectives, and GES’ quality standards are achieved.
  • Performs project management for high visibility / large scale projects, including project definition, siting, assessment, permitting, data management, and compliance support.
  • Monitors and analyzes regulatory developments and provides recommendations to Senior Management.
  • Leads strategic projects with clients to build and implement carbon removal strategies that enable clients to transition to net zero.
  • Works with Operations in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic to train / apply current staff or build a team of technical professionals to support existing and new project work. Will also assist with external candidate recruiting as needed for service line growth.
  • Generates revenue for by developing new clients, focusing on the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, and leverages existing clients and skilled internal staff.
  • Leads all aspects of bid and proposal preparation for Northeast and Mid-Atlantic based opportunities, working closely with GES’ operational and technical leaders applying GES’ financial standards and operational processes to ensure highest quality GES submittals.
  • Co-conducts sales presentations and informational seminars as needed for potential clients.
  • Represents GES at industry-related conferences, exhibitions, associations, and functions.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field discipline.
  • 15+ years of progressive air quality consulting experience, with a high degree of technical competence with Oil & Gas, Utility, Chemical and Manufacturing facilities, in Regulatory Management, Compliance and Support, Greenhouse Gas Emissions & Climate Change and Carbon Markets, Air Quality Permitting & Strategy, Impact Assessments and Licensing, Control Technology Assessments, Air Toxics Analysis and Sustainability.
  • Advanced knowledge of air quality market trends, analysis methods, mitigation & control strategies, reporting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven track record of client development and revenue generation; well-established industry and regulatory contacts, particularly in the Northeast and / or Mid-Atlantic areas of the US.
  • Must be a multi-tasked, detail-oriented team player and possess excellent communication, time management, problem solving, decision-making, and leadership skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for business purposes.
