Direct Care Staff
Qualifications
Must be 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalency (GED); must be able to read, write and communicate with co-workers, medical personnel, and other persons in a professional manner as necessary to care for the child’s needs; must be physically, mentally and emotionally capable to perform assigned tasks in a general residential setting; Must be able to demonstrate competency, prudent judgment and self-control in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilities;
Must report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to the Child Abuse Hotline and the designee of the organization;
Must know and comply with rules, laws and procedures as outlined by Texas Code, DFPS and the organization, and others that are relevant to duties

Must be able to perform the following physical activities: stepping backward, grasping, bending at the waist and knees, twisting at the waist, side-stepping, having the ability to shift direction quickly-180 degrees, able to do a reverse lunge, and able to lift 25 lbs.
Specific Job Duties
Responsible for:
- Assisting with admissions to shelter, including gathering information for on-call staff during after hour admissions
- Supervision of youth in shelter including:
- Knowing which children they are responsible for
- Child care services for each assigned child, being aware of children’s habits, interests and any special needs
- Being aware of and accountable for each child’s on-going activity
- Provide the level of supervision necessary to ensure each child’s safety and well-being, including auditory and/or visual awareness of each child’s on-going activity as appropriate
- Be able to intervene when necessary to ensure each child’s safety
- Ensure children receive proper food, clothing and medical care, including dispensing of medications
- Maintain client confidentiality
- Implement and follow service plans
- Utilize Positive Develop Plan and implement discipline procedures as outlined by organization
- Complete documentation including, but not limited to daily log notes, incident reports, telephone logs, etc.
- Transportation of children as necessary
- Assist in planning and implementation of daily shelter activities
- Assist in planning of menu and oversight of supplies to shelter, food, dry goods, medical/health, and sundry needs
- Assist in food preparation and meals for children
- Document meal counts daily
- Complete routine housekeeping duties to include cleaning, laundry and sanitizing
- Ensure any maintenance need is reported to Shelter Administrator immediately
- Perform other duties as assigned
