We are seeking a dynamic & experienced Full-time Phlebotomist, 1st shift to join our innovative Laboratories Services department at Rush University Medical Center!

General Summary:

The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing specimen collection for patients of all ages. This position requires teamwork to achieve common goals and meet deadlines to provide quality care to clients and patients. Position Highlights:
Obtains blood specimens from patients by the invasive procedure of venipuncture.
Collects specimens within established time frames as defined by the phlebotomy standard operating procedures (SOPs). Sends specimens via pneumatic tube to laboratory within established time frames as defined by the phlebotomy standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Utilizes required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined by Rush standards.
Keeps work area, phlebotomy cart, and personal appearance, neat, clean, and organized.
Documents in the Lab Information System (LIS) any delays, exceptions, and problems or unusual situations
Once proficient in adult and geriatric venipuncture and with additional training, the phlebotomist performs skin puncture on neonates, skin puncture or venipuncture on children and adolescents.
Acts as a liaison between the healthcare provider and Rush Medical Laboratories.
Responsible for collecting specimens for routine, preoperative, timed and STAT collections.
Interacts and communicates with physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel and other members of the health care team.
Helps train students and new employees. Completes training checklists within established deadlines. Acts as a resource person to others for technical questions.
Ability to assist laboratory staff in order entry and specimen handling.

Phlebotomist is required to move throughout different patient units to assist fellow phlebotomists

Position Qualifications Include:

High school graduate or equivalent required
A minimum of two years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital setting preferred
National Phlebotomy Association, American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or equivalent certification, highly preferred.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and exercise independent judgment

Availability to work some weekends
Promote teamwork by working together with supervisors and peers.
