On-Call Advocate (Part-time) – HAVEN From Domestic and Sexual Violence – The Dalles, OR

HAVEN from Domestic and Sexual Violence is accepting applications for 3 part-time after-hours crisis advocates for our on-call crisis-line response and advocacy (telephonic and in-person crisis response). HAVEN provides a 24/7 crisis line response to survivors of dating/domestic/sexual violence, stalking and trafficking. After-hour crisis workers are responsible for covering the crisis-line from 5pm until 10am on weekdays M-F, and from 10 am – 10 am Saturdays and Sundays to Monday morning. They will provide survivors crisis intervention, safety planning, and information and referral about HAVEN services and programs and other services available to victims of dating, domestic/sexual violence, stalking or trafficking. They may be called to provide in-person crisis response to sexual assault and/or domestic violence victims in hospital and/or emergency medical settings once fully trained advocate.

The on-call advocate can be stationed from home (approx 90% of the time) once fully trained the on-call advocate would accept all responsibilities for the crisis-line on-call advocacy schedule during their shift. The on-call advocate will share shifts during the week and weekends providing immediate crisis response and meeting the need of safety and self-sufficiency; the on-call advocate will maintain statistics; perform required functions mandated by grants and report to the Direct Services Program Manager. On-site requirements for the on-call advocate in conjunction with the advocate team, will be to attend the monthly advocate meeting, monthly staff meeting; 2nd and 4th Wednesdays mornings, as well as enter statistics in data base at HAVEN. The on-call advocate may be required to attend the hospital response debrief meetings as well.

Additionally, providing prevention efforts in schools and throughout the communities we serve. Located in The Dalles along the scenic Columbia River, HAVEN from Domestic & Sexual Violence prioritizes work/life balance for its employees, emphasizing self-care and trauma-informed modes of practice for both staff and those HAVEN serves. While the organization began in 1981 in the form of a 24 hour crisis-line and network of volunteers to support victims, HAVEN is now a distinguished anti-violence agency with innovative programming to serve survivors of violence from a social-ecological framework that addresses all aspects of survivors’ lives and works to support survivors in their healing journeys.

Offer stipends for overnight on-call shifts and $16.00 hour for actual telephonic and in-person crisis response and required grant activities/meetings.

Need to live within 30 minutes of local hospital.

Training: Upon competition of required training and in-person shadowing/on-boarding is completed, a stipend will be paid. Once part-time advocate is trained the shifts will start and the stipend and hourly wage will start.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Two – Four years experience or AA/BA with a emphasis on crisis intervention and sexual assault dynamics
  • Knowledge and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities

. * Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault and the impact on adult and child survivors.

  • Knowledge of community advocacy, peer counseling, and agency networking.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, make sound decisions, give clear direction and provide strong leadership in crisis situations.
  • Experience working with survivors of sexual assault Experience working with teens preferred. * Experience in crisis intervention.
  • Must have excellent judgment, communication and strong interpersonal skills. Must be well organized, creative, empathetic and people oriented.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in work processing, email, and Microsoft Office.
  • Must have transportation, current insurance coverage, and a valid driver’s license.

Background check required.

  • Successful completion of HAVEN’s DV/SA core advocacy training program (may be completed after hire)

Bilingual Spanish preferred.

A criminal background check will be conducted for all applicants considered for employment.

COVID-19 considerations:
This is a local position in Oregon – the Columbia River Gorge. Although some remote work is part of the role, on-site requirements would require a local The Dalles, OR residence.
