Lab Administrator – Northway Biotech – Waltham, MA

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lab Administrator with excellent interpersonal skills to ensure efficient operation of our growing lab in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment. In this role, you will support all research activities and assume a large variety of operational tasks including purchasing, accounting, materials management, ongoing lab maintenance, implementing steps to improve efficiency, anticipating and troubleshooting issues, mediating conflicts as needed, and increasing effectiveness of our lab over time. Responsibilities:

  • Be critical to the successful operations of our laboratories and implementation of a culture of high quality and attention to detail.
  • Coordinate laboratory purchasing/receiving/shipping to ensure items go to the correct people and are stored at the correct temperature.
  • Establish and update written procedures for facility usage, scheduling, billing, and safety.
  • Be the point of contact and communicate key information such as delivery timing, power outages, and repair/maintenance updates.
  • Oversee all aspects of safety, including tracking/managing of chemicals and hazardous materials, establishing and facilitating PPE policy, coordinating laboratory safety inspections, and working with external safety support providers.
  • Onboard new lab personnel including orientation on safety training and lab practices.
  • Stay current in the technologies used in the lab and participates in improving operations of the lab, both administratively and scientifically. Recommend and implement changes.
  • Organize and manage lab space and resources, including organizing and allocating freezer/ refrigerator/ liquid nitrogen space, organizing and stocking consumables/reagents, and tracking inventory.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree; relevant life sciences discipline preferred.
  • 2+ years laboratory management experience or 5 years working in a laboratory environment. Biotech experience is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of laboratory equipment used in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry.
  • Continuous improvement mindset that constantly seeks to improve efficiency and safety.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with demonstrated track record of successful communication with internal teams and managers.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with an ability to adjust workload based on changing priorities.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent change and thrive in a dynamic and entrepreneurial early-stage environment.
