Essential Functions

Provides direct medical care to patients requiring hospitalization to include charting medical history, assessing health status, performing medication reconciliation, diagnosing potential issues and working with physicians and other health professionals to provide high quality care; assists in the diagnoses and therapeutic management of patients under the supervision of a physician; organizes and presents patient data to the supervising physician(s) to include recommendations for appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens as determined by patients’ needs using applicable medical and surgical equipment; issues diagnostic and therapeutic orders including orders for approved drugs following applicable guidelines; provides instructions and guidance regarding health care and medical therapy to patients, family members and significant others; performs complete, detailed and accurate health histories and reviews patient records; orders appropriate laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies; performs comprehensive physical examinations and assessments and records pertinent data in appropriate electronic health record; formulates medical and nursing diagnoses and institutes appropriate therapies or referrals of patients to appropriate health care facilities, agencies, physicians, or other resources in the community; plans and initiates a therapeutic regimen which includes ordering drugs, medical devices, and nutrition and supportive services; interprets and analyzes patient data to determine patient management and treatment; initiates specialty service consultations; performs therapeutic procedures and assists with diagnostic procedures required for the care of the patient; administers medication including controlled substances by all routes; administers blood and blood products; retrieves pertinent diagnostic data and arranges follow-up procedures as indicated; assists with clinic duties as assigned by Medical Director; maintains database management for resident procedure certification; makes patient rounds independently and with the Attending Physicians, assisting with compliance of physician/resident documentation; assists with patient charges/hospital charges for physician/hospital procedures; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards and assists with Physician/Nursing such as hand washing, mouth care & VAP prevention, isolation policy, procedure sterility, decubitus ulcer prevention, etc..; develops and participates in maintaining quality initiatives; performs placing and review of medication (including medication reconciliation), lab and radiology orders; coordinates transition of care processes and education of patient and family, as applicable; participates in antimicrobial stewardship program; performs all duties and responsibilities in evaluating and managing adult conditions utilizing practice guidelines and appropriate clinical judgment in both inpatient and outpatient settings; provides timely, courteous, and efficacious care to patients; examines, diagnoses, prescribes treatments and medications, performs or orders tests and/or procedures for a variety of diseases and injuries using applicable medical instruments and equipment within the USA healthcare delivery system, referring to medical specialist for consultation and communicating with patients primary physicians, as indicated; assists staff with diagnostic procedures and interpretation, teaching, admissions, in-patient case management, discharge preparation, post hospital follow-up, and correspondence with referring physicians; consults the Staff Physicians or Private MD’s as needed; prepares reports as needed; serves on various committees and Quality Improvement teams; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required.
