RN Clinical Educator/Infection Preventionist (IP) – John Knox Village of Central Florida Inc – Orange City, FL

Job Summary: The Clinical Educator/IP will manage all aspects of employee hiring, screening, orientation, and maintenance of education and employee health files for Majestic Oaks. Coordinates, and manages required employee education and works in conjunction with interdisciplinary team to identify educational/training deficits across the nursing department. Assists the clinical management team where needed. This individual is accountable for decreasing the incidence and transmission of infectious diseases between patients, staff, visitors and the community. Through strategic planning, leadership and consultation, you will lead and direct a robust team in the identification and implementation of infection prevention goals and objectives throughout the facility. Also assures resident safety.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Enforce organizational policies and ensures standards of care are maintained
  • Develop yearly educational calendar including state/federal requirements as well as health related courses
  • Conduct pre-hire screening for potential employees including initial paperwork and drug screen
  • Conduct frequent rounds throughout facility to evaluate resident condition, environmental standards, and staff performance
  • Occasionally oversee direct care activities to assure that practices are consistent with evidenced based practice and facility standards
  • Participate in admissions, transfers, and discharges as needed
  • Participate in the development and delivery of resident care plans
  • Conduct meetings with facility staff and communicates information and changes in policies or procedures
  • Organize and plan orientation and in-service as well as direct staff to attend as required by facility policy or state and federal regulation
  • Conduct new hire orientation and oversee competency check off lists
  • Maintain employee education and health files including administration of tuberculin screenings and Hepatitis B vaccination
  • Maintain and monitor for compliance with licensure renewal for clinical staff
  • Utilize the quality indicators and quality measures when available in conjunction with facility management to develop a plan of action to improve resident care delivery through continued education
  • Conduct root cause analysis of quality indicators that deviate from acceptable standards; identify patterns and trends; develop plan to achieve desired standards
  • Participate in facility committees or the review of minutes of assigned committees that oversee specific resident care issues such as Care Plans, Fall Committee, Admission meetings, CQI, Resident “ at risk” meetings
  • Obtain drug screenings as needed for employee incidents and random drug screenings when indicated.
  • Organize and administer of employee influenza vaccine administration
  • Maintain notes and other pertinent records pertaining to employee performance; conducts staff performance appraisals, counseling, or discipline as appropriate
  • Monitor and evaluate infection control practices for risk management and quality assurance of the program in collaboration with Director of Nurses
  • Serve as back up for weekly wound rounds with wound care physician and complete necessary tracking logs
  • Partner with the Medical Director for Epidemiology/Infectious Disease to develop, implement and evaluate annual infection prevention goals and action plan
  • Partner with facility leaders, physicians, local, state, and national agencies on activities related to infection prevention
  • Oversee the operations of the infection prevention, epidemiology, industrial hygiene, and relevant safety programs
  • Accountable for surveillance of healthcare acquired and community acquired infections
  • Manage goal setting process for system, unit and physician goals related to healthcare acquired infections and conditions
  • Ensure appropriate intervention and education occurs with staff, volunteers and medical staff when healthcare infection trends, outbreaks or non-compliance to infection control/OSHA are identified
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and ensure that the facility leaders are informed of appropriate issues. Understands and complies with infection control, safety and OSHA procedures and regulations
  • Ensure resident rights are protected and that resident are free from abuse and neglect
  • Maintain open communication regarding unit staff or care delivery with Director of Nursing
  • Establish and promote a positive relationship with facility staff, independent physician practitioners, and area hospitals
  • Assist families in understanding facility’s policies and procedures
  • Participate in state recertification process or other regulatory activity
  • Assist with clinical emergencies, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Provide direct care as needed
  • Identify and assure staff development needs of unit staff and provides instruction as needed
  • Perform duties assigned within scope of practice as outline by the Florida Board of Nursing
  • As directed, act in the capacity of the Director of Nursing in their absence.
  • Take on call rotations or after hours calls as directed.
  • Assure resident safety at all times.
