HOURS: 8 am to 5 pm

SUMMARY:

Monitors daily workflow activities and system functioning within the department. Acts as backup for Prep/Scan/Indexing, Master Patient Index, Analysis, and Physician Liaison staff as needed. Prepares monthly, quarterly and year end reports for governmental agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Identifies system deficiencies, investigates difficulties, recommends corrective action or needed enhancements.

  • Maintains current working knowledge of HIM departmental applications and how they are used in department operations.
  • Serves as a resource in finding innovative ways to resolve operational issues/barriers.
  • Obtains concurrence from director and supervisors in how, when, and where to incorporate changes and enhancements.
  • Is actively involved in the planning, testing, training and installation of new features and fixes to the electronic medical record.
  • Directs and participates in the various system maintenance functions.
  • Conducts daily monitoring of HIM queues to ensure internal workflows are operating correctly.
  • Serves as the primary resource for scanner issues and contacts appropriate service personnel when required.
  • Develops or assists in development of education and training plans and tools.
  • Conducts ongoing education and training to all users.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
  • Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
  • Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
  • Attends all mandatory education programs.
  • Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
  • Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
  • Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
  • Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
  • Manages resources effectively.
  • Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
  • Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
  • Knowledge of basic HIM practices.
  • Knowledge of reimbursement systems and legal issues affecting medical records.

EDUCATION:

* GED/High School Equivalent
