Triage Medical Assistant – Woodruff Institute Llc – Naples, FL

The individual in this position is a member of a team for The Woodruff Institute’s health delivery system providing the highest quality dermatologic and aesthetic care in an out-patient clinical setting, with emphasis on personalized, quality care in an elegant environment. Triage / Clerical Medical Assistants perform job duties that are central to the efficiency of the medical office but are not directly related to clinical practices. Job duties support the operations of the clinical staff and the business end of the medical office.


Essential functions

  • Work as a team member within the medical assistant department and with all other departments
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by physicians, physician assistants, and/or administrative nurse supervisor or floor nurse supervisor
  • Answer phones; triage patient phone calls; schedule appointments; provide patients with test results
  • Educate patients regarding treatment procedures, medications and physician’s instructions
  • Manage electronic pathology logs
  • Maintains Medicare MIPS log for melanoma patients; reports annually
  • Report new neoplasms to state of Florida
  • Type & mail consultation letters. Including new melanoma letters to PCPs
  • Handle prior authorization paperwork for prescriptions
  • Perform and document Office Visit notes for PDT (photodynamic therapy)
  • Sort and log out specimens
  • Sort and manage incoming faxes
  • Monitor customer service expectations for the practice for all clinical aspects.
  • Perform clinical medical assistant related duties, as outlined in the medical assistant job description, when necessary (i.e. sick coverage, vacation coverage, etc., and if trained in clinical procedures)

Work environment

Fast-paced medical office. There may be a risk of exposure to communicable diseases therefore the temperature at the locations is kept low to minimize the spread of germs and bacteria.


Physical demands

This position is primarily sedentary, requiring long periods of sitting and looking directly at an active computer monitor.


Required education and experience

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • One-three years in a Customer Service position


Preferred education and experience

  • One-three years as a Medical Assistant
  • One-three years industry knowledge


Additional eligibility requirements

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant, recredentialing required every two years.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English.
