The Pharmacy Department provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient pharmaceutical services (prescriptions, unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical infusion pumps and teaching) throughout the Medical Center complex 24 hours per day. The Department is comprised of three inpatient and eight outpatient pharmacies, a sterile production lab and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores and distribution.

Responsibilities

The purpose of this position is to provide all aspects of technical support services under the supervision of an Ambulatory Care Pharmacist, including the monthly nursing and pharmacy area inspections.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid California Pharmacy Technician License
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish, both verbally and written.
  • Knowledge of current generic and brand name drugs, abbreviations, and drugs on current formulary.
  • Ability to interpret and understand physician orders, pharmacy, and nursing records.
  • Ability to perform pharmacy calculations accurately
  • Knowledge of current California Pharmacy Law.
  • Knowledge of current Medi-Cal Formulary and other third-party billing systems.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent experience working in an outpatient pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Familiarity with current HIV/AIDS drugs and treatment regimens.
  • Recent involvement with HIV/AIDS patients.
  • Ability to operate pharmacy computer systems and other software programs.


Special Requirements

Incumbent must adhere to the customer service principles of UCDHS. Must be able to work, Monday – Friday, rotating shifts, holidays and weekends. Occasional overtime, usually during computer failure, unanticipated staff shortage or unusually heavy dispensing periods. No smoking allowed in work area. TB test and blood serum sample required annually per JCAHO Standards. Must dress in a professional manner, as outlined by the Departmental dress code and have good personal hygiene. Must be able to competently staff all UCDHS Pharmacies and perform all job tasks in all areas of outpatient pharmacy. Must be able to work occasional evenings, nights, weekends and rotating holidays. Special protective equipment must be used for preparation of hazardous substances and spill clean-up.

This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
