LEAD PATIENT TRANSPORT ASSISTANT – PATIENT TRANSPORT SERVICE – North Oaks Health System – Hammond, LA

Summary:

Responsible for daily workflow of patient transport holding area and notifying manager when workload reaches capacity requiring additional assistance. Acts as the primary point of communication in patient transport.

  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Manual / Physical skill required: Lifting, standing, walking for extended periods of time.
  • Must be in good physical health, capable of standing on feet for long period of time, moving and lifting patients.
  • The Lead Patient Transport Assistant will be required to successfully complete a checklist of skills.
  • CPR Certification required.

Responsibilities:

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Organize the workflow and transport assignments daily.
  • Act as the primary point of communication with radiology, nursing/ancillary units, emergency department, outside facilities sending patients by ambulance and any other transport related entity.
  • Communicate delays timely.
  • Log Acadian transport times.
  • Schedule staff lunch breaks.
  • Complete inspections of stretchers and wheelchairs to ensure in appropriate condition for use. Maintain cleanliness of equipment including monthly deep cleaning schedule.
  • Teaches, promotes, and assesses for the use of proper body mechanics and transfer techniques for patient transport staff in the transfer of patients.
  • Recognizes emergency situations and initiates code procedures as appropriate.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
  • Assist with lifting patients, and transporting patients to other departments while demonstrating proper body mechanics.
  • Correctly uses the patient moving board as needed.
  • Responsible for patient care while transporting.
  • Check patient identification on armband against ticket to ride and verbally, if possible, with the patient. Ensure compliance with patient hand-off procedures.
  • Observes all IV lines, chest tubes, O2 lines or other tubing carefully on all patients during transport.
  • Adhere to mode of transport indicated.
  • Pickup, deliver and store supplies and/or equipment in appropriate place.
  • Promotes patient safety in all actions.
  • Report equipment service issues as appropriate.
  • Stocks linen and supplies in patient holding as needed.
  • Offer assistance and/or instructions to patients, physicians, families and co-workers in a courteous and attentive manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital.
