Mechanic Journeyman – MEDSTAR HEALTH – Baltimore, MD

Job Summary

Performs a variety of general and preventative maintenance on hospital facilities and equipment as well as some related new construction and renovation work.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Training

High school graduation or equivalent. Completion of acceptable training or demonstrated competency in board areas of building maintenance and repair.

Experience

3 years experience in building maintenance or operations including electrical, mechanical, pipefitting, welding and carpentry.

License/Certification/Registration

No special certification, registration or licensure required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Basic math skills, including fractions. Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditationregulations.

  • Conducts group training sessions and on-the-job practice for other maintenance staff.

  • Ensures that time and material records of self and others within assigned team are complete, accurate, and submitted to the supervisor/coordinator at the end of each shift.

  • Maintains on hand at all times the necessary tools to perform required maintenance work.

  • Maintains relationships with various vendors relating to building maintenance and renovation projects.

  • Oversees teams of mechanics in the completion of building maintenance and renovation projects.

  • Performs various maintenance duties to include preventative and corrective maintenance of the following: plumbing, electrical, chlorine system, fire extinguishers, oxygen & vacuum system, grounds, laundry, elevators and building systems.

  • Provides back up maintenance support for zone work. Completes repair orders as necessary.

  • Provides working leadership for other maintenance staff in a variety of building maintenance projects.

  • Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and failures, determines necessary repairs to equipment, and initiates work orders.

  • Works from blueprints, schematic diagrams, and sketches when performing projects and detailed work. Uses basic mathematics and estimates work requirements when necessary.

  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required, and service improvement teams.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
