The Bethel Youth Facility is recruiting to fill a Juvenile Justice Officer III position located in the Detention Unit.


What you will be doing:

Juvenile Justice Officer III positions are the lead staff in providing care, custody, supervision and treatment for residents of the Alaska juvenile detention and training school facilities. The Juvenile Justice Officer III is the lead-level position, in which the incumbent: provides training, direction and supervision of three (3) to four (4) Juvenile Justice Officers I and II; supervises the activities of the living unit during an assigned shift, and other duties as assigned by the Juvenile Justice Unit Supervisor. The incumbent must have a proven history of sound decision-making abilities, initiative and creativity, able to work independently and must be a team player.

The working environment you can expect:

This position is located at the Bethel Youth Facility, 950 State Hwy, Bethel Alaska. As a Detention Unit Supervisor you will cover shifts at various times of day, 8-hour shifts, for 40 hours a week. The shift schedule is adjusted quarterly. At times, work is off site, such as filling in for coverage on the Treatment Unit, various community work service and other outings, court, medical and release escorts. Air travel maybe required at times.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience performing the full range of treatment and security functions in a juvenile justice facility. The required experience is met by service as a Juvenile Justice Officer II with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

Two years of experience administering, advising on, performing, or supervising adult or juvenile corrections, law enforcement, parole, probation, residential treatment casework, or social casework.

OR

Two years of experience performing the full range of duties associated with the custody, security and reformation of prisoners in an adult correctional institution. The required experience is met by service as a Correctional Officer II with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.


Special Note:

Prior to initial appointment, successful candidates for the Juvenile Justice Officer series and Juvenile Justice Unit Supervisor positions are subject to a background investigation, criminal record check, and medical examination to determine the essential duties of the position can be safely performed.

A valid driver license is required at the time of appointment.
