Child & Family Therapist / Intensive Care Coordinator – We Care Services for Children – Walnut Creek, CA

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in: Social Work, Counseling or Clinical Psychology.
  • Licensed, or License Eligible MFT, LCSW, PhD or PsyD.
  • Previous clinical (mental health) experience working with children and families in multicultural communities.
  • Valid California driver’s license, auto insurance and car.
  • Must be able to conduct telehealth sessions in a private space from home during the covid-19 crisis.

Job Summary

Seeking a licensed or license-eligible clinician with experience working with young children and families. This full-time (40 hour) position is 50% Child & Family Therapist and 50% Intensive Care Coordinator.
As Child & Family Therapist, the successful candidate will provide telehealth and/or home- and clinic-based infant/child-parent assessment and/or psychotherapy services to children from birth to six years old and their parents/caregivers. As Intensive Care Coordinator, the candidate will perform
telehealth and/or home- and clinic-based case management and facilitate Child & Family Team (CFT) meetings in the Katie A program.

Job Duties:

  • Assesses clients to determine appropriate diagnosis, treatment modality and interventions.
  • Develops treatment plans based on clinical assessment of client and family needs.
  • Provides dyadic therapy, collateral and case management services in the home, community and/or office for children 0-6 and their caregivers.
  • Performs case management and facilitates Child & Family Team (CFT) meetings on cases children 0-6 with child welfare system involvement.
  • Maintains an appropriate caseload and meets program billing goals.
  • Participates in case consultations with other treatment team members and collaborates with outside providers as needed.
  • Documents billable services according to county guidelines.
  • Prepares files on a yearly basis for EPSDT Utilization Review.
  • Attends all agency staff meetings and designated training events.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of early childhood development and mental health and the ability to apply this knowledge to relationship based infant/child parent-psychotherapy.
  • Clinical experience providing trauma-informed services to young children and their families.
  • Ability to accurately form diagnostic assessments of the mental health needs of young children, and to work under pressure of crisis situations at times.
  • Ability to establish and sustain therapeutic alliance with young children and family members of diverse cultural backgrounds, with a commitment to cultural sensitivity and awareness.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and work independently on a day-today basis clinically, legally and ethically, and to consult with supervisor when appropriate.
  • Must have working knowledge of all laws pertaining to mental health in general and child abuse in particular and be able to apply them in everyday practice.
  • Previous experience as a meeting facilitator for Wraparound or Intensive Care Coordination preferred.
  • Prior home- or community-based clinical experience is a plus.
  • Some experience with providing clinical services via telehealth would be very helpful.
  • Bicultural/bilingual preferred.
