Medication Assistant Overview: Our Medication Assistant will provide personal care services, assistance, support and supervision to residents. Administer routine medications to resident in accordance with state regulations.

Medication Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Follow the assistance plan in providing services to residents.
  • Assist in the development and updating of each resident’s assistance plan.
  • Dispense all prescribed medication as ordered by the physician.
  • Maintain an accurate Medication Administration Record.
  • Maintain and count an accurate Controlled Substance Record.
  • Inform Administration of any change in a resident’s condition.
  • Follow up with pharmacy to ensure in proper and expedited delivery of all medication
  • Encourage socialization among residents.
  • Encourage and/or remind residents to participate in activities.
  • Promote activities enthusiastically to pique residents’ interest.
  • Chaperone activities outside the facility when requested.
  • Monitor health, safety and well-being of the residents.
  • Document information pertaining to changes in residents’ functional status, personal needs, appointments, etc.
  • Assist in keeping the environment safe for residents.
  • Provide one-on-one support/visitation to assigned residents on a weekly basis or as requested or as specified in the assistance plan or daily communication log.
  • Report concerns about residents to Administration.
  • Respond to resident emergencies; provide first-aid assistance and arrange for appropriate medical attention/follow-up.
  • Arrange for transportation services for transfers.
  • Identify supplies needed to perform tasks
  • Practice safety in working around and with equipment, chemicals, tools and utensils.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with coworkers, residents, families and visitors.
  • Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, facility operations and personnel.


Medication Assistant Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, with reading, comprehension and writing ability at 12th-grade level or higher
  • Must be willing to work every other weekend
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19
