Occupational Therapist Full-Time – May Institute – Chicopee, MA

May Institute’s May Center School for Autism and Developmental Disabilities – West Springfield and Chicopee MA is accepting applications for a full-time occupational therapist. Our school offers full-day, year-round educational services to children and adolescents ages 3 – 22. We focus on building communication, social, behavioral, vocational, and academic skills.

We are excited to expand our school services in Western Massachusetts with the opening of our new Chicopee school campus this August. To support this expansion, we are looking for an occupational therapist to provide consultative OT services to both campuses (just 13 minutes apart).

  • OT services as consult instead of direct which allows flexibility for the specialist to spend time on what the student needs most each week. This can include, but is not limited to, working with the student, observing OT programs being run by staff, training staff, probing new skills, writing OT programs or goals and conducting assessments
  • Training staff on OT programs so your programs can be run throughout the week allowing students to receive lots of practice
  • Reliable data taken on your programs by staff so you can review progress easily

Responsibilities:

  • Provide consultative OT services to students
  • Complete assessments and writing objectives
  • Develop formal and informal programs
  • Developing functional activities to meet the needs of the students
  • Train and provide consultation to staff as needed
  • Write goals for IEP and evaluate progress on student progress reports
  • Collaborating with classroom staff regarding students’ OT needs
  • Performing related occupational therapy services as assigned.
  • provide consultation notes to be sent home to parents weekly

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an approved program in occupational therapy
  • Valid and current license as an OT in Massachusetts
  • Demonstrated commitment to student progress
  • Strong written an oral communication skills
  • Experience working with children and/or adults with Autism and other developmental disabilities with a full range of skills and abilities required
  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis preferred
  • Available full-time 40 hours Monday through Friday including summers
