Responsibilities


Position Summary:


A member of the surgical team who performs technical procedures related to preparation for and assistance with surgical procedures while maintaining an advocacy and respect for the surgical patient. Responsible for assisting the nursing staff in providing care for the surgical patient before, during, and after surgery. Maintains supplies and equipment in readiness before, during and after surgery. Assists the surgeon by preparing, maintaining and controlling sterile supplies and equipment used during an operative procedure.


Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate with experience as an operating room technician or graduation from a surgical technology program.
  • Demonstrate competency in aseptic technique, operating room procedures and assistance with multi-specialty surgical procedures.
  • Ability to work as a team member to meet team goals and objectives.
  • Work effectively under multiple demands and adjust priorities as circumstances require to meet turnaround time goals and staffing needs of the department.
  • Treat co-workers, patients, physicians, and family with dignity and respect.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all hospital staff.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Work a flexible schedule and be willing to work additional hours if needed for the provision of quality patient care.
  • Physically be able to stand, stoop and lift. Able to walk and stand at least 90% of the shift.
  • Good manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
  • Occasional potential exposure to caustic materials and fumes.
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases as a result of handling biohazardous materials.
  • Surgical Tech Certification
