Summary Description

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director; General duties include:

  • Evaluation and treatment of neuromuscular, sensory, musculoskeletal, perceptual motor, fine motor, feeding, eating, ADL, visual motor, ocular motor, community interactions etc;
  • Collects and interprets results of evaluation in comprehensive report which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in educational environment
  • Implements classroom screenings, evaluations, educational program and transitional planning, therapeutic intervention, and exit planning
  • Documentation of findings of evaluations, student treatments(daily notes) to ensure accountability of range of service provision , Meets monthly Medicaid standards , PLAPP statements in accordance to guidance line protocols
  • Professional judgment and clinical knowledge are used to develop programing based on occupational performance deficits in the areas of self-care, student role, interaction skills, process skills, play, community integration/work and graphic communication;
  • Collaborates with school disciplines to ensure team understanding of student performance strength and needs, through evaluation, educational programing planning ( MET, IEP, IFSP) and service delivery
  • Participates in multidisciplinary meeting to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve annual IEP goals;
  • Therapist is expected to use clinical reasoning and judgment to ensure safety of students and protect liability of the school system;
  • Monitors and reassess the effects of occupational therapy intervention and the need to continue, modify or discontinue intervention
  • Demonstrates ability to negotiate works space in school setting , adjust to changes in venue and unexpected school activities which affect delivery of service
  • Prioritizes and schedules work task independently: Travels to and among schools
  • Supervision and consultation with Physical therapy assistants
  • Co-signs notes written by Physical therapy assistants
  • Provides continuing education and in-services for educational personnel, parents, and community based providers;
  • Provides field work education and supervision for physical therapy students;
  • Develops home care programs for students and provides instructions to families during IEP, or home visits(early intervention/home bound)
  • Confers with the classroom teacher as requested concerning any educational needs for students receiving direct, consultative services or 504 plans;
  • Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings at school setting/Kids in motion main office
  • Attend yearly open house for patients
  • Responsible or maintenance of School equipment and supplies of assigned treatment areas
  • Recommend the purchase of supplies as necessary
  • Continuing professional expertise through workshop, educational meetings, lectures, conferences, visiting other programs in other districts, reading professional literature, exchanging ideas with school personnel, open houses, staff meetings in order to maintain and excel with current treatment techniques
  • Assists/leads in the implementation of present and new services, groups, and programs to foster an interdisciplinary approach and an exceptional system of care
  • Promotes the ethics and values of Kids in Motion demonstrating behaviors which show a commitment to patient care, innovation, quality, respect, teamwork and communication
  • Follows and abides to current and future policies and procedures

Minimal Qualifications

  • Degree in Physical Therapy/certification from an accredited program
  • Current License to practice as an Occupational therapist in the State of Michigan
  • Follow state guidelines for required CEU

Skills required

  • Previous experience with pediatric population
  • Interpersonal skill to interact positively with staff, patients and parents
  • Physical stamina required to lit and reposition patients and stand and work continuously
  • Competency in computer skills required
