Coding Operations Manager


Overview of Position

The Coding Operations Manager provides operational leadership for the coding operations function. Ensures delivery of accurate and timely coding of inpatient and outpatient records according to established Policies and Procedures. Directly manages all employees involved in medical coding /abstracting, provides direction for all coding activities, productivity and employee satisfaction.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Managing a team of remote coders
  • Provide coders with clear and concise direction for coding projects
  • Coaching coders on weekly quality/coding errors and trends
  • Ensure monthly volumes is met
  • Occasionally assist Sr. Manager in the management of new client implementations, which may include project workflow design, staffing, vendor certification, coder hires and certification to ensure a successful go-live

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • High School Diploma
  • 5+ years of experience with multi-specialty physician practice coding
  • Active certified coder certification (CRC, CPC, CCS – P) through AHIMA or AAPC (CCA, CPC-A not accepted)
  • Experience with clinical related chronic illness diagnosis, treatment, and management
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • 2+ years of Team Lead and/or people management experience

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, recognizing a commitment to privacy, security and confidentiality of all medical chart documentation
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines while providing quality results
  • Positive proactive, customer service attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent listening skills

How much should I expect to travel?

Employees in roles that require travel will need to be able to qualify for a company credit card or be able to use their own personal credit card for travel expenses and submit for reimbursement.
