JOB SUMMARY

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) administers speech therapy services to patients according to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and Wyoming State Board of Speech-Language Pathology Standards of Practice. The SLP is responsible for evaluating assigned patients and establishing, implementing and overseeing appropriate plans of care for these individuals in order to restore and maximize their function and quality of life..

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Practice in a safe manner that minimizes risk to patients, self and others.
  • Perform patient evaluations and develop appropriate plans of care according to applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish with the patient appropriate and realistic short and long term functional goals.
  • Administer effective and appropriate treatment interventions that are individualized and adjusted to the needs of each patient for the purpose of meeting their functional goals.
  • Select and use appropriate, accepted, standardized tests and outcome measures to assess the results of interventions administered.
  • Communicate effectively and on a regular basis with patients, caregivers and fellow healthcare team members to promote optimal healthcare delivery and progress toward the patient’s functional goals.
  • Complete documentation related to Speech-Language Pathology practice in an appropriate, legible and timely manner that is consistent with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise assistive personnel and students in a manner that assures safe and efficient care.
  • Attend meetings and serve on committees as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education / Experience / License and Certifications

  • Holds a master’s degree from an approved college or school of speech/language pathology.
  • Current State Licensure in Speech Pathology shall be equivalent to the current requirements prescribed by the Council on Professional Standards of the A. S. H. A. for the Certificate of Clinical Competence.
  • Bona fide copies of all documents required by the A. S. H. A. need to be provided for the area being applied for. In lieu of the documents listed here, a bona fide copy of the Certificate of Clinical competence in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology and a bona fide copy of the card showing current certified status in the A. S. H. A. may be submitted.
  • Current BLS certification, required.

Additional Skills

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Knowledge of equipment utilized in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of speech pathology.
  • Must be able to determine appropriate patient procedures and evaluate results.
  • Ability to maintain control and respond calmly and positively during crisis situations (i.e., Code Blue).
  • Appropriate telephone communication skills.
  • Performance of technical skills related to speech pathology.
  • Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique and related impact on rehabilitative medicine practice and equipment.
