The Occupational Therapist is responsible for evaluation, treatment planning and implementation of Occupational Therapy services for adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for initiating care as per receipt of order by a physician. The therapist administers patient care according to guidelines set by the Occupational Therapy Practice Act, Rehabilitation Services Department policies and procedures, Occupational Therapy policies and procedures, and scope of care. The patient care process includes examination, evaluation, treatment planning, intervention, patient/family/caregiver training, equipment and follow up recommendations, and documentation. The therapist administers therapeutic approaches and treatment modalities as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. The Occupational Therapist is concerned with the engagement of individuals in meaningful and purposeful occupations in the areas of ADLs, IADLs, work education, social participation, play and leisure. They assist patients to reach their maximum occupational performance while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. Treatment considerations include performance skills and patterns, contexts, and environments, general activity demands, and client factors. The therapist coordinates delegates and supervises the care provided by COTA/L’s and students.

Qualifications

  • Current certification with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) (required).
  • Current California Occupational Therapy License (required).
  • Current BCLS certification (required).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing (required).
  • Additional languages (preferred).
  • One (1) or more years of previous experience in inpatient acute care Occupational Therapy setting (required).
  • Basic computer knowledge (required)
