POSITION SUMMARY:

The Dietary Aide performs a variety of food service functions in maintaining clean and sanitary conditions of food service areas, facilities, and equipment. He/she may also assist in some aspects of food preparation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Handles food and equipment according to sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Is aware of safety regulations and responsibilities in operating all equipment.
  • Delivers food carts, trays, etc., to designated areas as instructed by supervisor.
  • Prepares and delivers snacks.
  • Performs daily or scheduled cleaning duties, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Reports any discrepancies in his/her area to supervisor.
  • Ensures that customers and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Interacts with residents, families, visitors, facility and center staff.
  • Carries out other tasks as required in situations where hands-on intervention/pa1iicipation may be required.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, additional hours, and in different positions as the facility’s needs require.
  • Must practice good personal hygiene and follow the dress code requirements.
  • Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Some high school is required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have knowledge of the methods and techniques of handling and serving food.
  • Must have knowledge of sanitation practices relating to food handling.
  • Must have the ability to follow diet lists, portion food as specified, and serve food in an appetizing manner.
  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.

PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:

This is moderately heavy work requiring a combination of sitting, walking, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, and standing. Moderate use of both upper and lower extremities necessary for ambulation and equilibrium and carrying objects weighing a maximum of 40 pounds. Must be able to lift, push and pull a maximum of 40 pound using proper body mechanics.

MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:

The ability to utilize language skills to comprehend spoken and written words effectively. Adaptable to multiple and changing priorities. Able to maintain composure and use judgment when dealing with residents and staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT FACTORS:

Location: Indoors; kitchen and cafeteria areas with tiled floors, office area, and overhead lighting.

Climatic/Atmospheric: Thermostat control located in building exposure to hot and cold temperatures in food storage and production areas. Office is heated and air-conditioned. Exposed to fumes and odors, wet and humid conditions.

Type and Level of Noise/Vibration: Exposed to moderate level of noise due to activity of staff, Kitchen equipment, telephone calls, and other equipment, and openness of environment.
