Detailed Job Description
The Senior Staff Specialist provides the primary administrative and financial accounting support to the Chemical Engineering Department under the supervision of the Department Head. This individual plays a key role in ensuring a welcoming environment that encourages the development of connections among students, staff, and faculty.

Responsibilities include:

  • Self-directed and collaborative
  • Interact in a professional and informed manner with individuals both inside and outside the university
  • Exercise discretion and judgement in addressing sensitive or protected information pertaining to students, faculty and staff
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the administrative and financial support staff in the dean’s office and to the college’s scheduling officer.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the department office; monitoring and analyzing the department’s budget and financial accounts
  • Facilitate recruiting, hiring and other human resource processes
  • Provide academic program support (e.g., scheduling courses, updating department materials, collecting and analyzing assessment data, helping prepare accreditation reports)
  • Organize and coordinating department events
  • Hire and supervise student workers;
  • Other duties as assigned

Department/College Description
The Chemical engineering program at RIT is a five-year BS degree program that includes 48 weeks of cooperative education, and prepares students for both industrial careers and graduate-level education. We also house a PhD in Biomedical and Chemical Engineering (shared between the Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering departments), and are currently constructing a Masters degree in chemical engineering. Our staff and faculty team thus have the extraordinary opportunity to influence the relatively young undergraduate program and emerging graduate program. We rely on our staff to help create a welcoming learning environment for our students and a collegial atmosphere for our department. We prize our staff as they manage the department logistics and provide the necessary framework to meet the teaching, research, and service mission of the department. The Chemical Engineering Department is housed in Institute Hall, a 86,000 square foot facility with state of the art labs for both faculty research and teaching. Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience required.
  • Exceptional communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Computer file organization

Preferred:

  • 2 years of Oracle and Kronos experience
  • Previous grant accounting experience
  • Career Zone/Kenexa Brass Ring
