Pre-Medical Illustration Assistant – Johns Hopkins University – Baltimore, MD

The Academic Affairs Department is seeking a Pre-Medical Illustration Assistant . This role will:

Help evaluate and recommend effective approaches to visually communicate complex medical and scientific concepts and principles

Participate, as needed, in meetings and audio recordings with faculty to assist in the process of creating unique, technically accurate visual aids

Assist the Medical Illustrator in creating accessible graphs, charts, and infographics according to Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 guidelines

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Be an integral member of the CTL team in developing materials for online courses in public health

Produce artwork for faculty PowerPoint presentations

Coordinate with instructional designers, technical writers, and multi-media staff on image, animation, and audio needs

Create Open Source materials for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)

Select and implement visual appearances of course webpages, including banner design and color choices

Work independently as well as with the Medical Illustrator to ensure all deadlines. Work closely with the CTL production team (Instructional Designers, Technical Writers, Web Developers, Audio Specialists) to ensure quality course outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Illustration, Clinical Photography, Clinical Illustration, or a related field.

Three years of related experience, preferably in science or technical illustration.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

  • JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must have a strong background in scientific and biological concepts.
