The mission of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) is to provide statewide leadership of a high-quality mental health and addiction prevention, treatment and recovery system that is effective and valued by all Ohioans.

** Work Hours: 8 hour: 1st Shift 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. | 2nd Shift 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. | 3rd Shift 10:45 p.m. – 6:45 a.m.

12 hour: 1st Shift 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. | 2nd Shift 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. | 3rd Shift 6:45 p.m. – 6:45 a.m.

Every other weekend rotation

**Summit Behavioral Healthcare (SBH) offers Psychiatric/DD Nurse a $1.25 shift differential pay for 2nd and 3rd shift full time, permanent employees. In addition to that SBH also offers 8%supplemental pay for 2nd and 3rd shift full time, permanent employees

**Per the 1199/SEIU bargaining unit contract, effective the pay period that includes July 1, 2022 & July 1, 2023, the pay schedule shall increase by 3%

What You’ll Do:

  • Assesses & evaluates nursing & medical needs of patients who are hospitalized (e.g., admissions, ongoing treatment, discharges); initiates & directs implementation of nursing care plan; observes, evaluates & records patient behavior, condition & response to medication, treatments & therapeutic activities; provides professional nursing care (e. g., administers medications & treatments as ordered by physician, educates patient on medication(s), assists with physical examinations, takes & records vital signs, performs venipuncture); responds to emergency situations (e.g., codes, suicide, assault).
  • Directs delivery of & evaluates psychiatric & nursing care of patients as delivered by professional & nonprofessional staff (e.g., licensed practical nurse (i.e., LPN), therapeutic program workers (i.e., TPW)) on assigned shift, monitors LPN medication administration, documentation, patient care & operation of medical equipment (e.g., stethoscope, blood pressure monitor, glucometer); precepts & provides support for nursing staff as assigned.
  • Prepares, reviews, implements & updates records/reports/plans (e.g., individual treatment plans, incidents, restraints/seclusions, nursing care plans, shift reports, transfers, admissions & discharges); transcribes &/or verifies doctors’ orders; writes nursing summaries; participates in ongoing performance improvement/quality assurance.
  • Serves as interdisciplinary treatment team member; performs variety of miscellaneous duties (e.g., light housekeeping in patient areas & living quarters; identifies & reports safety concerns; attends & completes required trainings & educational programs; schedules unit shift breaks/lunch).

Qualifications
Requires current license as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Revised Code.
Knowledge of professional nursing procedures; psychiatric or developmentally disabled nursing*; employee training & development*; state & federal regulations, policies & procedures as related to nursing; public relations*; counseling*. Skill in operation of medical equipment. Ability to deal with some abstract but mostly concrete variables; write meaningful, concise & accurate reports; demonstrate physical fitness. Unusual working conditions:

  • Must be able to complete a one month (business days Monday-Friday) full time orientation (7 of those days will be 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; 7 of those days will be 6:30 am – 3:00 pm; a minimum of 10 shifts nursing precepting as scheduled by staff development based on preceptor availability on shift hired to work)
  • May work weekends and holidays; may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior.
