Director, Health Economics, Outcomes Research (HEOR), & Value Demonstration – SAGE Therapeutics – Massachusetts

General Scope and Summary

SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, highly motivated individual for the Director, Health Economics, Outcomes Research (HEOR), & Value Demonstration position. The candidate should be an experienced professional who will drive the development of SAGE-718 in Huntington’s Disease (HD), Parkinson’s Disease (PD), and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). The role involves integration of patient-centric outcomes, health economics, and real-world evidence to demonstrate the economic and humanistic value of SAGE-718.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic HEOR plans for SAGE-718 in HD, PD, and/or AD.

  • Lead interpretation and dissemination of clinical outcomes assessments (COA) evidence from clinical studies and RWD.

  • Lead the development and communication of models and analyses on SAGE-718; drive development of evidence to support models.

  • Lead effort to update value proposition for SAGE-718 in HD/PD/AD; identify opportunities and execute studies to differentiate and enhance value.

  • Design and execute projects included in the strategic plan, such as burden of illness, real-world clinical outcomes, retrospective database analyses, and meta-analyses.

  • Engage with Medical Affairs partners to disseminate key BOI and COA research.

  • Lead cross-functional meetings such as Value and Access Team (VAT).

  • Represent HEOR on cross-functional internal teams.

  • Contribute to and potentially lead leadership team discussions on HEOR strategy.

  • Develop and implement training on HEOR data for Medical Affairs and field HEOR team.

  • Present research findings at scientific congresses and participate in the development and writing of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Identify, select, establish, and manage a global network of contractors, consultants, and CROs to execute planned HEOR deliverables.

  • Develop and maintain a strong network of professional contacts.


Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders. Must have a demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action, excellent analytical skills, and an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.


Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of HEOR experience in the pharmaceutical or related industries (e.g., consulting) with an advanced degree in epidemiology, health economics, pharmaceutical sciences, or related discipline (MS, MPH, PharmD, PhD).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experienced in conducting research in HD, PD, or AD.

  • Familiarity with US and ex-US regulatory and payer landscapes.

  • Ability to communicate technical scientific data to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong record of scientific leadership in HEOR, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.

  • Excellent analytical skills, including in-depth knowledge of COAs and pharmacoeconomic modeling and retrospective database analysis methodologies.

  • Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key business stakeholders. An ability to influence for greater outcomes.

  • Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution-oriented.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.

  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.
