Your Role:
Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team. Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.

Qualifications: Graduate of an approved discipline specific program (or equivalent experience) and 1 year relevant experience

Unit Summary

Welcome to the Vanderbilt Student Health Center. The clinic is in the Zerfoss Student Health Center, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The Student Health Center’s mission is to enhance the academic experience of students by providing quality primary healthcare services in a nurturing and cost-effective manner. All of our physicians and nurse practitioners have chosen college health as their area of expertise and interest and are dedicated to meeting the unique health care needs of the student population. Whether the student is sick or injured, managing a chronic health problem, or working to develop a healthier lifestyle, the VU SHC is there to help.

There are 2 floors with 2 onsite laboratories and a dispensary. The patient volume for the overall practice is, approximately, 30,000-35,000 visits annually. We provide the following services: Acute Care Clinic, allergy shots, eating disorder treatment, LGBTI health care, Primary Care, routine immunizations, sexual and reproductive health, travel medicine, sports medicine, and have a nutritionist.

Our excellent, service-oriented patient care is directed and/or delivered by the collaborative, team-focused efforts of an interdisciplinary healthcare provider team including Attending Physicians and Nurse Practitioners. The Leadership Team is comprised of a Medical Director, an Administrative Manager, and a Nursing Assistant Manager. Clinic staff members include Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical Lab Technicians, and Patient Services Representatives.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:

NURSING PATIENT ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION (NOVICE):– Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations. Demonstrates sufficient acumen to recognize problems, ask questions and to contact the patient’s primary care provider and other members of the healthcare team. Has experience in gathering pertinent clinical data that aid in referral, treatment, or other primary care pathways.

CARE PLANNING (NOVICE):– Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Competently handles multiple assignments often simultaneously by prioritizing work into manageable and measurable units. Ability to adapt to changes to patient care and area needs with minimal disruption and loss of productivity. Follows up to assure problems and issues are resolved.
