Phlebotomy Student – NCH Healthcare System – Naples, FL


JOB SUMMARY

The phlebotomy student participates in a formal training program and is responsible for collecting laboratory specimens through blood collection techniques under the supervision of Licensed Practical Nurse, Medical Assistant, or phlebotomist.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Other duties may be assigned.

  • Successfully completes the classroom and clinical portions of the phlebotomy training program.
  • Follows infection prevention and patient safety practices of the NCH Healthcare System.
  • Demonstrates accuracy with patient registration and clinical documentation.
  • Enters orders, correctly labels, and receives specimens correctly into lab computer system.
  • Performs specimen problem resolution and adds, cancels, & modifies orders correctly.
  • Triage specimens according to insurance coverage i.e. Medicare (NCH), LabCorp or Quest.
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service.
  • Collects and processes lab specimens.
  • Answers phones and schedules patients for lab appointments.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association required prior to starting the phlebotomy training program
  • Basic computer skills
