SUMMARY

The Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic is responsible for properly executing emergency medical service obligations as an Advanced Life Support Provider. This position is expected to have the capability of being available to respond to a medical incident at any given notice. This position provides adequate protection and care of the life and property of customers, employees and others on property while maintaining exceptional customer service.

Your daily responsibilities include:

  • $1,500 sign-on bonus (internal applicants not eligible)
  • Pay: Starting from $25.00 per hour, based on experience
  • Schedule: TBD, must be available to work swing shift hours, weekends and holidays.

  • Complies with all applicable rules and regulations of the West Virginia Racing Commission and the West Virginia Department of Health & Human Resources, Office of EMS.
  • Complies with the Security/EMS Department Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Complies with the Exposure Control Policies for blood-borne and air-borne pathogens.
  • Conducts patient care equipment inspections and ensure proper stocking at the beginning of each shift.
  • Cleans and/or decontaminates durable patient care equipment
  • Clean and/or decontaminates the ambulances as needed.
  • Restocks expendable supplies and disposable equipment utilized for patient care immediately after the incident.
  • Performs assessments, interventions, and treatment of trauma and medical patients in accordance with the current West Virginia Advanced Life Support & Basic Life Support Protocols.
  • Performs appropriate assessments, interventions and treatment for trauma and medical patients in accordance with current West Virginia Advanced Life Support Scope of Practice.
  • Operates telephone and radio communications equipment effectively to transmit patient information to the appropriate care facility and/or with Security Control.
  • Provides verbal reports of patient interactions and conditions to incoming EMS units, receiving facilities, doctors and nurses involved in the patients’ care
  • Provides written documentation of patient care assessments, conditions, interventions and outcome on West Virginia run report prior to leaving the hospital.
  • Provides written documentation of exposures to blood or body fluids immediately in accordance with the Security/EMS department Exposure Control policy.
  • Assists EMS Department Staff when requested within the EMT-P scope of practice.
  • Works with other licensed EMS agencies as needed for our operation or in a Mass Casualty Incident situation.
  • Enthusiastically supports, actively promotes and demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with department and company standards and programs
  • Participates in meetings and training as required.
  • Maintains complete patient confidentiality and company information at all times
  • Utilizes effective communication tools to ensure that consistent, accurate and timely information is provided through the shifts.
  • Ensures that behavior and appearance are in compliance with established standards.
  • Maintains a professional work environment with management and staff.
  • Performs all job duties in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by department and/or company management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent required. 1 year released independent practice on your own.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Ability to read, analyze, interpret and comprehend documents, instructions, and correspondence/memos. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers or staff, customers and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to accurately calculate figures and amounts and perform mathematical functions applicable to business needs.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and follow through on a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possess and maintain the following certifications:

  • West Virginia Department of Health, Office of EMS as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P)
  • CPR at the Healthcare Provider level;
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) at the advance provider level
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) at the advanced provider level
  • West Virginia certification in Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC)
  • WV MCI I & II
  • Haz Mat Awareness

Must obtain licensing with the West Virginia Racing Commissions every year of employment. Must possess a valid driver’s license for the state in which you reside. In addition to the pre-employment background check, this position will be subject to periodic checks of your driving record in order to determine your continued suitability to drive company and/or patron vehicles. You must be able to operate a company vehicle.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Working knowledge of the Incident Command System.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook; Word; Excel & Access. Knowledge of office machines is required including personal computer, copier, fax, calculator,etc.. Champion of Red Carpet Customer Service and building positive team spirit. Must be diplomatic and tactful and have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with employees. Flexible to work all shifts including holidays, nights, weekend hours and overtime as business needs dictate.

  • Maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and effectively deal with customers, management, employees and others.
  • Have vision of 20/20 or correctable to20/20; see standard visual warning signals, be able to distinguish fine print such as labels and observe the signs of closed or open wounds and see EKG tracings on heart monitor and paper strip recording. Distinguish between colors including shades of blue, red, yellow and green.
  • Hear, including vocalized medical history by patients, standard audible warning signals, radio and telephone communications, stethoscope auscultation of blood pressures and breath sounds.
  • Speak, read and write in English to communicate with patients, fellow EMT’s and medical staff. Reach across an ambulance gurney or above their head, stretch and grasp objects with hands.
  • Stand, sit or kneel for periods of 10 minutes or longer. Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs alone; lift objects weighing up to 150 lbs. or heavier with one partner of equal size and strength; lift objects weighing n excess of 150 lbs or heavier working with 3-4 partners of equal size and strength.
