24-year-old young man in Chevy Chase is seeking staff to assist as a personal support to help him develop skills that will increase his independence in our family home and at supported activities in his community. He has many interests including art, books and Tae Kwon Do. He enjoys attending classes at Montgomery Community College and visiting libraries, museums and parks. He would like to work on developing vocational skills which could lead him toward a job or program in a health care setting or library.
Position duties will include home-based activities such as building a daily routine and developing work/life skills as well as support in programs in the community including attending special-education college courses locally. Successful skill-building will continue to transition to participation in community-based activities that could include volunteering, vocational, and travel training. Hours are planned to be full-time (M-F 7:45am – 3:45pm).
We are seeking a candidate with experience and/or certification implementing a behavioral program with individuals with disabilities. A candidate with RBT certification or experience, or a student pursuing a psychology degree with interest working on implementing a behavioral plan, would be an ideal fit for this position. An interest or degree in art would also be a plus.
As a DSP, we are seeking an individual who has experience working with people with developmental disabilities, including autism, and is eager to participate in helping increase the young adult’s independence and integration into the community. Additional job-specific training will be offered with this position.
Candidate must be reliable, motivated, energetic, and patient. Must be CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to complete this training prior to start). Must have reliable transportation with clean driving record and be able to pass a background check and drug screening test.
