UW Medical Center – Montlake has an outstanding opportunity for a Perinatal Clinical Nurse Educator, who has responsibility over Labor and Delivery, Antepartum, and the Mother/Baby units.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as clinical nurse expert for FHT knowledge and judgement. Performs strip reviews with healthcare team, provides expert feedback and identifies opportunities for education, judgement and clinical response. Serves as AWHONN EFM instructor.

Identifies opportunities for improvement in documentation of the medical record. Identifies gaps in charting requirements and provides feedback to team members.

Skilled in driving performance improvement and sustaining change. Works with Clinical Nurse Specialist to track data and perform analysis to ensure improvement, understanding and compliance.

Thoughtful communicator who seeks to understand existing barriers to performance excellence; helps to remove barriers and move teams to performance excellence.

Leads drills on the units to help improvement areas noted as high risk, low occurrence: maternal code, newborn code, malignant hyperthermia and AFE for example.

Works with Assistant Nurse Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist on skills assessments and competency drills to include, but not limited to, management of obstetrical hemorrhage, massive transfusion protocol, shoulder dystocia, resuscitation of the newborn, intrauterine resuscitation, management of severe hypertensive episode. Oversees mandatory education on units.

Maintains records to demonstrate compliance, competence of employees for regulatory audits.

Performs check-ins with newly hired team members; provides feedback to preceptors and new hires to ensure successfully onboarding. Works with Assistant Nurse Manager team to coordinate new hires / preceptors onboarding and clinical experience. Serves as point person for educational needs for those new to Perinatal nursing.

Works closely with Assistant Nurse Manager team, Clinical Nurse Specialist, unit managers and assistant administrator as scope of care on the units expand and helps to ensure staff readiness through education and development of increased skill set.

REQUIREMENTS

BSN or enrolled in BSN program

At least two years of recent/current clinical experience as an intrapartum nurse

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

Washington State RN license.

DESIRED

Experience working in a Mother/Baby unit

AWHONN EFM instructor

Prior experience as unit educator
