POSITION: Shipping Inspector

JOB SUMMARY The Shipping Inspector is responsible for stamping parts, sorting, wrapping, packaging and preparing parts for safe transit via common carrier. This position involves satisfying internal shipping requirements, ensuring accuracy of outgoing shipments and maintaining supporting documentation. This position is responsible for loading trucks for shipment, as well as inspecting parts and completing ICL paperwork.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Stamp parts as instructed, based on job travelers and customer requirements using ink stamps and/or engraving machine as required.
  • Check parts for dimensional errors and surface defects.
  • Complete and sign the Inspection Checklist document for job travelers.
  • Report discrepancies to supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with shipping specifications.
  • Verify that serial/batch numbers and part quantity are correct and satisfy job order.
  • Ensure 100% shipment accuracy to customer specifications.
  • Package parts and prepare for shipment accordingly – pack, wrap, seal, label, and affix labels to packages (box, wrapping, crate and/or pallet), using work devices such as hand tools, power tools, and label makers.
  • Help ensure proper storage, inventory and security of all products and materials.
  • Will operate forklift, dolly, hand-cart and pallet jack to move products.
  • Assist in loading and unloading truck shipments.
  • Participate in LEAN manufacturing and SPC activities as required.
  • Participate in total quality management projects to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record.
  • Comply with all APP, Inc. safety rules and company policies.
  • Ensure any accident or injury is promptly reported.
  • Wear proper Personal Protection Equipment in work area at all time.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
  • Perform any other duties not mentioned above when instructed to do so by Supervisor.
  • Analyze opportunities for improving the efficiency and cost savings.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • 1-2 years of high school
  • 1 year experience in manufacturing
  • Able to understand instructions and safety procedures.
  • In lieu of the above, any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the aforementioned knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered at the Company’s discretion.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Basic English (reading, writing, verbal and comprehend).
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisor, and other personnel.
  • Basic math and measuring.
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Should be able to work in any shift.
  • Must be able to work occasional overtime to meet operational deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Able to work in a demanding fast paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Blueprint reading experience
  • Forklift certification
  • Vocational or trade school certificate
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 year experience in shipping/receiving/packing
  • Experience with material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack, carts and dolly).

  • Requires manual dexterity and continued use of both hands, use of hand tools, power tools and related equipment.
  • Position requires hand-to-part force as necessary to stabilize part(s) during cutting or machining process.

  • Employee is occasionally exposed to moving forklifts, working plant machinery and power tools.
  • Work environment is indoors. Workstation is located in an industrial manufacturing plant.
  • Temperature in work area can exceed 90F throughout the work year.
  • Exposure to sharp aluminum shavings and burr chips.
  • Noise level in the work environment usually varies from moderate to high.
  • Moderate-to-high vibration by industrial machinery and power tools.
