DSHS DVR Business Specialist – State of Washington Dept. of Social and Health Services – Bellingham, WA

As a DVR Business Specialist (classified as a Rehabilitation Technician 2), you will establish and maintain activities to develop, locate and secure job openings for our customers. The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) is looking for someone who is willing to embed themselves in their community and help us on our mission to Transform Lives!

Some of what you will do

  • Develop, train and maintain professional relationships with public and private employers, employment advocates, business leaders, talent acquisition employer representatives, and social services partners
  • Serve as an active, strategic partner in the local WorkSource center business engagement team
  • Provide placement service options to DVR customers
  • Assist each customer in effectively using the services and resources available
  • Document customer progress and track and report job placement activities and outcomes
  • Provide staff with current labor market information to support the development of in- demand job goals


Who should apply?

  • Professionals with a business administration, public relations, marketing, communications, or human resources Bachelor’s Degree


  • Or,
    a Bachelor’s degree with at least 18 quarter or 12 semester credit hours from the following courses: Marketing, Public Relations, Human Resources, Business Administration, Business Practices, Communications, Economics, Public Speaking, Leadership, Project Management, Small Business, Entrepreneurship, Employment Law or Training and Development.

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Knowledge of employment and training state and federal laws, policies, rules, and regulations
  • Ability to prepare and develop materials and make presentations to various groups
  • Knowledge and understanding of multiple barriers to employment that apply to people with disabilities
  • Excellent communication skills with a variety of stakeholders
  • Knowledge of job search strategies and placement techniques
