Position Description:

As Controller, you will report directly to the President of Shoreside, with dotted-line responsibilities to Saltchuk Logistics’ (Parent Company) Controller. Your primary responsibility is to manage all aspects of the Company’s accounting and financial activities. As a team player, you will serve as a support system to other department members, and you will contribute on collaborative efforts throughout the company. Your attention to detail will allow you to shine as you reconcile inaccuracies or imbalances, compile and reconcile information for other departments and maintain internal controls. You will provide key financial insight and recommendations to the leadership of Shoreside.

Job Responsibilities

· Responsible for accurate & complete books and records of the Company

· Responsible for managing a team of accountants and other financial professionals

· Sets policies and procedures to allow for efficient and effective accounting and financial processes

· Protects company assets by creating a strong environment of internal controls

· Monitors financial performance of company by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data to President and VP of Operations

· Prepares budgets by establishing schedules, collecting, analyzing, consolidating financial data

· Partners with leaders of the company to achieve budget objectives by scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and recommending corrective actions

· Provides routine status updates for the financial condition of the operating company

· Prepares special/ad hoc reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends

· Ensures timely financial & management reporting for both the Company and Parent Companies

· Ensures optimal operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques

· Creates a culture to continuously improve accounting and financial processes, find efficiencies, automate, and better utilize technology

· Assists the Company in other necessary duties to achieve Company goals

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

· Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting processes, and other accounting concepts

· Great analytical skills

· Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal communication skills are required

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, computerized ledger, and fixed asset systems

· Possesses ability to interact positively with a variety of people at all levels

· Demonstrate flexibility regarding peak-time work requirements

· Previous experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative work environment

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on multiple tasks, prioritize, and complete tasks with excellent attention to detail under tight deadlines

Education

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field required

· CPA or CMA certificate preferred

· 5 to 7 years of experience working in accounting management, with increasing responsibilities
