Optometric Technician/Doctor’s Assistant – Shepherd Hills Eye Care Center – Allentown, PA

Our optometry practice is seeking a full-time Optometric Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate must be willing to provide quality patient care, be able to perform their duties accurately and efficiently, work with patients in a professional and friendly manner, and be able to assist the doctor in direct patient care.

Your responsibilities would include:

  • Pre-testing patients by obtaining eye and medical history and measuring visual acuities
  • Conducting specialized ophthalmic testing, such as auto-refraction, visual fields and retinal imaging
  • Assisting the doctor with patient care needs
  • Ensuring that patient records are complete and accurate
  • Training new contact lens wearers on how to insert, remove, and care for their lenses
  • Ordering contact lenses and maintaining contact lens inventory
  • Assisting patients with check-in and check-out, making appointments, and determining patients’ insurance benefits

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and skills:

  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Able to perform job functions accurately, completely and efficiently
  • Detail-oriented and very organized
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Desire and ability to learn new skills
  • Able to work well in a team environment
  • Minimum intermediate-level computer skills
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving skills to identify and resolve patient issues or concerns.

Experience in the eye or medical field is very helpful but is not required. We are willing to train the right person to help us take great care of our patients! Most hours are days but some evening and Saturday morning hours are required. While this is a full-time position, candidates interested in a part-time position of 20-25 hours per week will also be considered. Pay: $16.00 – $19.00 per hour

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • medical, optical or ophthalmic office: 1 year (Preferred)
  • customer service: 1 year (Preferred)
