Direct Support Professional – Flexible Schedules – YAI – Seeing Beyond Disability – Farmingdale, NY

YAI is hiring compassionate and reliable people looking to grow in the field of healthcare and human services. The Direct Support Professional is an entry-level position joining an interdisciplinary team of Registered Nurses, Healthcare Specialists, Behavior Intervention Specialists, and Residential Managers to support people with various intellectual and developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will enjoy helping people achieve their fullest life possible and are willing to support them in daily activities that prevent them from being self-sufficient, including assisting in emotional support and counseling, crisis intervention, home health care, vocational education, and communal living resources. All job-specific knowledge, strategies, and skills are provided as paid training through YAI’s Training and Development Department.

(Nassau County) Williston Park, Hicksville, Old Bethpage, Levittown, Seaford, Port Washington, Manhasset, Glen Cove
(Suffolk County) South Huntington, Centereach, Dix Hills, Commack, Wheatly Heights, Deer Park, Bay Shore, or Central Islip

Shifts:
Morning (6:30am- 2:30pm)
Evening (2:30pm-10:30pm)
Overnight (10:30pm-6:30am)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building Positive relationships
  • Maintaining a therapeutic environment through a variety of methods: Personal Outcome Measures, Person-Centered Thinking, Informed Decision Making
  • Ensuring person-centered plans are implemented
  • Completing documentation to ensure compliance and billing
  • Using foundational Teaching skills (EMOE, Task analysis, essential skills, supports and modifications, etc.)
  • Ensuring health, wellness and safety by managing crisis situations and providing appropriate supervision of the people we support
  • Demonstrating a willingness to assist people with ADLs
  • Transporting and escorting people we support on recreational activities, medical appointments, home visits, etc.
  • Adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Using effective communication skills & time management skills
  • Being a member of a highly effective team (Teamwork within the circle of support)
  • Completing mandatory training based on the program and position (AMAP, CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, Defensive Driving, etc.), as well as applying skills
  • Meeting and demonstrating OPWDD Core Competencies

Requirements :

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required; Continued education in psychology, social work, art therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, or disability services strongly preferred.
  • Fluent English reading, writing, speaking, computer skills necessary to record observations and monitor development.
  • Ability to participate inn5 days of paid NYS Mandated OPWDD initial training during normal business hours upon hire.
  • Tuberculosis test mandatory prior to the start date.
