General Function:

As a Retail Dietitian Assistant, this position will be responsible for researching, and providing information on health topics. You will participate in store projects, including Health Market and dietitian activities. Additionally you will ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director, Dietitian, Managers of GM, Perishables, and Store Operations, Assistant Managers

Direct Reports: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.

2. Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.

3. Makes and effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible.

4. Assists customers by:

  • escorting them to the products they’re looking for

  • securing products that are out of reach

  • loading or unloading heavy items

  • making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests

  • performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience.

5. Answers the telephone promptly when called upon, and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.

6. Researches new products for the Health Market.

7. Researches health topics for use in store materials, newspaper articles, health tips, intercom messages, website, etc.

8. Create media pitches from health topics and articles.

9. Update product nutrient lists, such as low sodium food lists.

10. Assists other departments by obtaining nutritional, promotional materials from specific organization such as the American Dairy Council.

11. Makes promotional announcements over the intercom system explaining health benefits of food for different departments

12. Participates in food experiences to provide nutritional benefits of the demonstrated product and to increase sales.

13. Participates in store projects including new stores and existing store remodels.

14. Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.

15. Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.

16. Obtains HIPAA certification and respects all patient confidentiality matters

17. Keeps current on nutrition topics and customer trends.

18. Reports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assists in other areas of store as needed.

2. Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

Education and Experience:

Enrolled in a Dietetic curriculum in college.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to perform light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distance of less than 20 inches and up to 20 feet with or without correction.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, stooping, lifting, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems; variety of variables with limited standardization; interpret instructions.
  • Must have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Must possess the ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; file and post materials; copy data from one record to another; guide people and provide basic direction.

Working Conditions:

The duties of this position are normally performed in a retail store location.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Calculator, computer, two wheeler, ladder, four wheel cart, telephone, fax machine, copier and printer.

Contacts:

Has daily contact with general public, suppliers and vendors.

Confidentiality:

Has access to confidential information. Maintains confidentiality of customer’s private medical information.
