Position Summary:

Working in accordance with established Board of Child Care policies and Procedures, Code of West Virginia DHHR and Medicaid Regulations. The Registered Nurse will develop, manage and monitor an efficient Health Office Service which includes: administration and supervision of medication; emergency assessment and triage of care as needed; coordination of routine medical and dental care; medical case management, staff orientation and training; health education for children and youth, and delegating nurse responsibilities to cover AMAPS and patient assessments, including off site facilities.


Essential Functions:

  • Adheres to or exceeds established policies and procedures, Board of Child Care standards, regulatory practices and state regulations.
  • Responsible for the ongoing timely management and completion of residents’ wellness visits in accordance with regulations to ensure that changes in residents’ health status are being addressed and are known to the residents’ primary care provider and responsible party.
  • Responsible for medication management as it relates to residents who are administered medications by unlicensed staff, and makes appropriate recommendations to the authorized prescriber or designee as necessary.
  • Transcribes providers orders to resident charts, medication records etc. as required. Maintains Medication Administration Records (MARs) and Treatment Authorization Requests (TARs) records.
  • Oversees medication administration by AMAPS.
  • Administers medications and treatments according to regulations and established procedures.
  • Refills and stores medications according to established pharmaceutical policies and procedures.
  • Implements stop-order policy and removes all outdated and discontinued drug medication bins and places in designated area.
  • Maintains current scheduled and controlled drug record in accordance with state or federal laws.
  • Responsible for assessing the continued competency of the AMAPS.
  • Manages AMAPS and performs med passes on each quarterly
  • Provides case management services of linkage and advocacy related to procuring and scheduling medical services off site and ensuring that those services meet the assessed needs of the client.
  • Participates actively in the quality improvement process by identifying opportunities for process improvement, attending facility wide committee meetings; submits required reports; recommends plans for improvements.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time non-exempt position. The forty hours of work are completed in four ten hour shifts or five eight hour shifts between Monday and Friday. This position regularly requires long hours and occasional weekend work due to the Nurse on Call schedule. This position is eligible for flex schedule. Non-essential position for snow days.


Travel

The nurse may be called upon to travel to medical appointments locally and within the state of WV and to training experiences outside of the state.


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or equivalent experience
  • Possession of an active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure without disciplinary infractions by West Virginia Board of Nursing.
  • Three (3) years of nursing experience preferably in a pediatric or group home setting.
