MILIEU COUNSELOR/NURSING ASSISTANT – Cambridge Health Alliance – Everett, MA

CHA Everett Hospital is a busy community hospital, offering inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital operates 112-beds and provides intensive care, telemetry, behavioral health, and medical-surgical services. CHA Everett Hospital has a two (2) room OR and one (1) endoscopy room and a 24-hour emergency service department. Outpatient care at this campus includes surgery, orthopedics, rehabilitation, specialty care, primary care, and behavioral/mental health programs.

Lewis 2 is a 22 bed Geri Psych/Behavioral Health Unit for patient population 55+. We provide a vibrant activities program along with special group sessions and programming to provide support. A special group room houses musical instruments, art supplies and other items to engage individual patient strengths and interests. Patients are cared for by an entire team consisting of: Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Case Managers, Milieu Therapists and Nursing Assistants.

The role of the Milieu Therapist/Nursing Assistant is to provide quality patient care according to Cambridge Health Alliance standards of nursing practice and the role expectations of the Geri Psychiatric Inpatient Unit and to develop professionally. The Milieu Therapist/Nursing Assistant is a member of the multidisciplinary team who, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, is responsible for a safe and structured unit milieu as well as attending to the individual needs of patients in crisis on an inpatient psychiatric setting. Will work on a 22 bed Geri/Adult Psych unit and will assists with ADL’S lead or co-lead groups, perform safety checks, 1:1 meetings with patients, and will accurately chart patients B/P, TPR & weight. Notifies RN of any changes in vital signs. Accurately measures and documents patient’s intake and output. Uses appropriate methods of urine and stool collection and labeling of these specimens. Assists patient’s following through with ADL’s (bathing, laundry, organizing room), maintaining nutritional and hydration needs, and assisting & monitoring elimination needs and other task as assigned by charge RN.

Qualifications/Experience:
High School graduate or GED required.
Must have current certification as a Nursing Assistant or a current nursing student who has completed a clinical rotation.
Current BLS issued by American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers required.
Experience in a Geri-psych unit highly preferred.
Newly hired candidates are required to successfully complete a job specific physical agility test.
