REHABILITATION TECHNICIAN- OUTPATIENT REHAB – Excela Health Latrobe Hospital – Blairsville, PA

Job Summary:

Assists professional staff in daily activities treating patients, as well as, performing all clerical functions.

TECHNICAL STANDARDS

Essential Functions: Defined as duties specific to the job, that, if removed, would change the entire purpose of the job; to include the Essential Physical Demands and Essential Working Conditions of this position.


I. Core Essential Functions:

  • Regular, consistent, on-site, and timely attendance.
  • Prepares treatment areas and assists professional Rehab staff in efficient treatment of patients ensuring safety, respect and confidentiality.

    • Assists therapists by preparing the patient and treatment areas.
    • Monitors safety of patient and self during treatment.
    • Communicates effectively with therapist concerning individual patients and their treatments.
  • Utilizes consistent courteous telephone technique for all customer contacts.

    • Demonstrates calm and courteous manner in receiving and handling calls.
    • Demonstrates understanding of customer satisfaction and corporate
    • Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of phone system during an emergency situation.
  • Coordinates scheduling of patients for Rehab Departments into appropriate scheduling system.

    • Accurately obtains necessary patient information
    • Optimizes patient and doctor satisfaction, staff availability, and equipment utilization when scheduling appointments.
    • Minimizes delay of evaluations as availability allows when scheduling outpatient appointments as indicated by monthly statistics.
    • Responsible for rescheduling patients to maintain compliance with plan of care.
    • Reports changes in patient volume to leadership.
  • Interfaces with physician offices, professional staffs and patients regarding insurances, obtaining appropriate referrals and other issues related to authorization and treatment schedules to avoid delays in initiation of treatment.

    • Reports insurance information to including benefits and LCD to professional staffs.
    • Assists with looking up authorizations on Navinet system, and calling insurances directly to resolve an issue with authorization.
    • Corresponds with insurances via fax, delivering plans of care and patient updates.
    • Works with registration to insure patient authorizations are received prior to assessment.
  • Maintains patient information and charges.

    • Scans patient information into TS & Cerner with the appropriate time frame.
    • On occasion will enter manual charges, G codes or billing errors.
  • Travel to other entities or sites within the System as patient census dictates, in order to provide quality necessary care where patient need is greatest

    • Staff schedules require flexibility as they are dependent on patient care needs, which may include evening and weekend hours, as necessary to meet demand in their primary area or the needs across the System.
  • Demonstrates computer skill level to efficiently meet the needs of Rehab Department Operations.

    • Demonstrates skill level with Windows computer system to allow word processing documents to be completed within a timely manner.
    • Demonstrates skill level with Microsoft Excel that allows timely entering of statistical data that will be utilized for analysis by the professional and administrative staff.
    • Demonstrates skill level with Microsoft Outlook program that allows daily communication with Rehabilitation Services Manager, Lead
    • Demonstrates skill level with Navinet system that allows for timely monitoring of patients insurance authorization status.
    • Demonstrates skill level with EMR that allows for proper navigation through the system, following HIPPA guidelines.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and skill level with STAR & Allscripts to complete patient billing if necessary, and locate patient prescription.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of all Rehab supplies and forms.

    • Replenishes supply as needed by ordering via the Purchasing Order System for stock and non-stock items.
    • Inventories and organizes supplies as received by the department.
    • Maintains the appropriate amount of linen for departmental use, and communicates with Laundry Department on a regular basis.
    • Follow all safety guidelines for equipment and patient care.
  • Maintains care and storage of equipment, following Rehab Department and Excela Health system Policies

    • Assures all Rehab Department and Excela health System standards are met for cleaning all patient treatment areas, and equipment and keeps a legible records.
    • Maintains records for temperatures of all appropriate equipment.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of infection control policies.
  • Follows all quality initiatives as determined by department leadership.

V. Required Skills and Knowledge:
Minimum level of education, skills and abilities necessary in performing the job.


Education:

  • HS Diploma, GED or equivalent knowledge


Certification / Licensure / Regulation:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
  • PA Act 153 Clearances (Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system, Act 33-PA Child Abuse History obtained through the Department of Public Welfare, Act 73-FBI Fingerprint screening)


Prior Experience:


Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and customer relations skills.


Preferred Factor:

  • Technical or Business School Diploma, Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Managed Care Referrals. Previous experience preferred.
