Company: Children’s Emergency Relief International (CERI)

Position: Guatemala Program Director

Assignment: Remote Position [CERI Headquarters, San Antonio, Texas]

Reports to: Executive Director (ED)

Status: Full Time (Exempt)

Pay Grade: 17AS

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, in field related to nonprofit management, program development, communications, philanthropy, or business. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience working in international program development in Guatemala or other Latin American countries. Extensive travel experience to the Latin American region is required. Experience managing international operations is required. Qualified candidates will demonstrate an ability to fluently read, write and speak Spanish, as well as navigate the cultural legal and funding requirements associated with creating a nonprofit operation in Latin America.

Critical Action Items:

1. Formulate a strategy for CERI’s program in Guatemala

2. Establish the requirements for registering and running operations in Guatemala

3. Identify global funding opportunities that fit CERI’s strategy for the region

4. Apply for and develop funding streams to initiate operations in Guatemala

Measurable Deliverables:

1. Conduct a needs assessment, interviewing local child protection authorities, consulting with local and international nonprofit organizations, and the local population, to inform a strategy for Guatemala.

2. Work with the Executive Director to formulate a 3-year strategy for Guatemala and the region.

3. Identify and build relationships with local officials, legal and accounting firm to support CERI’s branch registration process.

4. Recruit professionals in the social services and nonprofit management fields to serve as lead-personnel for CERI’s branch in Guatemala.

5. In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Marketing & Development Director, develop a strategy for fundraising for the Guatemala program.

6. Research and identify U.S. Government funding streams, foundation grants and CSR opportunities to support the Guatemala program.

7. Prepare initial drafts of applications for funding identified as best fitting for CERI’s work and strategy in Guatemala.

8. Conduct multiple visits to Guatemala and the region to develop relationships, a positive reputation and opportunities for funding.

9. Network strategically with Guatemalan nonprofits, local authorities and potential donors to advance CERI’s interest.

10. At the time determined by the Executive Director, facilitate the application for registering a CERI branch and hire personnel for the Guatemala branch office.

11. Conduct orientation and onboarding with new staff, as well as oversight of the newly planted program.

12. Meet and/or exceed the strategic goals and objectives for the project.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Travel domestically to develop and foster positive relationships with corporate partners and donors.

2. Lead service trips or vision trips when necessary.

3. Contribute to the marketing & development goals of the organization.

4. Other job duties as assigned.

11. Be culturally sensitive and aware with the people we serve.

12. Computer literacy and social media proficiency.

13. Possess a valid driver’s license, work eligibility status and an excellent driving record.

14. Pass criminal and driving background checks.
