DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL/


REGISTERED BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Program Administrator, provide support services in a 4-bed community, highly structured adult residential care facility for adults with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges age 18-59. This is a non-exempt position.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team and assist in the evaluation and assessment, treatment planning, and discharge planning for each individual.
  • Provide direct care, training and supervision to the individuals as prescribed in each IPP and provided for in the Facility Program Design and Training Schedule.
  • Comply with facility policies and regulations.
  • Provide for the physical care, training, supervision and recreation of residents.
  • Be familiar with each resident’s IPP goals, IBSP objectives and methods for achieving these goals and objectives. Safely and effectively carry out Individual Emergency Intervention Plans (IEIP) as designed.
  • Promote special and individual events for the individuals (birthdays, dances, community outings, cultural celebrations, etc.).
  • Assist individuals with habit training, maintenance of a well-groomed appearance, and maintenance of beds, clothing and living areas in a clean and orderly manner. This requires both support skills and self-initiation skills of the successful direct support staff.
  • Work with SARC, workshop staff, and others to provide comprehensive program for the individuals supported.
  • Assist and encourage the consumers in developing self-reliance in activities of daily living.
  • Administer treatments and special diets as ordered by physician that do not require licensed staff.
  • Attend resident council, monthly, quarterly, annual or other meetings as may be required or requested.
  • Assure that each consumer receives substantial and appropriate attention daily.
  • Be continuously ready to assist consumers in areas of need.
  • Observe consumer conditions and behaviors, documenting in resident records significant issues as they occur and notifying administrator/ director and/ or physician as needed. Report any occurrences to on-coming shift, if appropriate.
  • Assist the Program Administrator in making full use of emergency resources.
  • Help create a safe, therapeutic, and home-like environment.
  • Participate in job shadowing and pass tests that are required within Title 17 or Title 22 timelines.
  • As a member of the treatment team, utilize and build upon the cultural strengths of each consumer, providing appropriate interventions and resources.
  • Assist with coordination of and participation in consumer activities, including individual and specific group activities as outlined on monthly calendar.
  • Escort consumers to intramural or extramural medical, health, or other community services, and program outings (cultural and community events), including to SARC’s Specialized Behavioral Management Day Program.
  • Demonstrate awareness of individual rights and potential for consumer abuse; promptly reporting any adverse behavior, resident abuse or suspected abuse and/or neglect.
  • Act in a professional manner with other agencies, families, and professionals involved in individuals’ treatment, from intake to discharge.
  • Ensure health and safety of all who EBSI supports.
  • Provide assistance with housekeeping chores; utilize infection prevention standards and procedures and adherence to universal precautions.
  • Document all outside program contact with family, friends, and others.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings as specified by supervisor to include but not be limited to: case conferences, staff meetings, program planning meetings, staff process group meetings, and linkage meetings with other agencies.
  • Comply with the EBSI policy requirement to submit proof of valid CDL, maintain good driving record (as evidenced by initial submission of DMV report and ongoing approval as agency driver), and submit proof of auto insurance for current period of coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with all SARC, CCL, local, state, and federal regulations, and ESSENTIAL BEHAVIORAL SUPPORT, INC. Policies and Procedures.

  • Work the hours required and as scheduled by the Director of Operations or Program Administrator, including overnights, weekends, holidays, occasional fill-in for other staff, and on-call responsibilities. This includes mandatory trainings that may fall outside of the usual scheduled shift.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Must meet Title 17 and Title 22 requirements. Have at least six months prior experience providing direct care to individuals with developmental disabilities, with a focus on behavioral services, in a residential setting working with persons with behaviors that may impact health and safety.

Skills and Abilities: Maturity and ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring tact, poise, friendliness, and sensitivity. Be able to maintain integrity and confidentiality regulations in regard to client information and records. Sympathetic and objective understanding of individuals with mental, emotional and developmental disabilities. Must be able to communicate well in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to communicate verbally by phone in English in a clear and concise manner. Utilize positive “care taking” strategies for resident supervision. Nurture and support multiple-challenged residents.


Physical Abilities:
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., approximately three (3) times per week. Must be able to navigate several flights of stairs during each work shift. Ability to drive in heavy traffic and inclement weather.


Mental Abilities:
Ability to think clearly and manage multiple changing priorities, and remain pleasant and positive. Requires critical thinking and ability to manage difficult population. Requires good judgment.


License Required:
Become a registered behavior technician (RBT) within sixty days for a lead DSP or twelve months of initial employment for a DSP; or be either a licensed psychiatric technician; or a qualified behavior modification professional.

First Aid and CPR certificates, DOJ/FBI (and child abuse index, as applicable) clearance, and health screening and TB clearance prior to provision of services. A valid California Driver’s License – Class IIC. Proof of current auto insurance.

Any direct support employee who works at an EBSI home with a pool must have a water safety certificate prior to their first shift.


DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIRED:
A valid California Driver’s License – Class III/C. Clean driving record and submission of DMV report. Proof of auto insurance.

Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work, 21 years of age or older, verification of degree/credentials, satisfactory health exam, fingerprint clearance, submit proof of valid California Driver’s License, good driving record (must meet insurability requirements of EBSI carrier), submit proof of auto insurance for current period of coverage, successful completion of CPR and First Aid Training, and agree to uphold all ESSENTIAL BEHAVIORAL SUPPORT INC.
