This position reports directly to the Sr. Chemist, Technical Services.

This position is located in Aurora, North Carolina, U.S.A. and is not available for remote work.


What you will do:

  • Analyze non-routine samples, including pilot plant studies, and making changes and documenting new analytical methods for sample analyses
  • Perform trouble-shooting and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment in main, and all satellite laboratories
  • Maintain Laboratory equipment by organizing daily work activities to prevent equipment failures that may cause delays in delivering assays needed to maintain maximum production of production systems during an 8-hour shift
  • Ensure compliance with the Food/Feed Management Systems at all times
  • Perform all assigned analyses following a routine / non-routine sample schedule and enters results into the Laboratory LIMS system including using a variety of instrumentation and methods
  • Respond to requests for priority assays by logging samples and results into the LIMS system
  • Produce analytical results for process and shipment samples to assist in quality control / quality assurance of company products and entering results into the LIMS database
  • Analyze non-routine samples from customers, R&D, and special process projects
  • Perform maintenance on various instrumentation including calibrating, troubleshooting, and changing out reagents
  • Monitor quality assurance in the lab and reanalyzes questionable assays
  • Perform statistical quality control charting
  • Follow safety and environmental procedures
  • Report all control analyses when LIMS is down
  • Identify off-grade or abnormal shipments and control analyses and reports to the shift supervisor
  • Serve as a technical resource to the shift


What you will bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required

  • Completion of all STPP requirements for Operator II (Internal Candidates)

  • Combination of education and experience in a physical science laboratory setting to include at least five years of hands-on experience

  • Curriculum and on-the job-training encompassing the entire laboratory processing area is required
  • Thorough understanding of all safety and operational procedures is necessary to qualify for this skilled position

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential
  • Ability to demonstrate reliability, responsiveness, and dependability

  • Knowledge in Good Laboratory Practices, Food Safety, and Feed Safety

  • Keen observation skills and acute attention to details are needed
  • Ability to learn the details in all aspects of Standard Operating Procedures, safety, environmental procedures and regulations
  • Systematic procedural discipline, following a predetermined course of action for doing things, guiding oneself with little or no supervision, and developing a team atmosphere to get things done

  • The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) testing is required for all hourly applicants of Nutrien. Applicants must complete this test and meet a minimum of 4 in Graphic Literacy, 5 on Applied Mathematics and 5 on Workplace Documents in order to be considered eligible for employment with Nutrien

Compensation & Benefits:

Starting at $26.46 per hour, based on work experience (plus available overtime).
