The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for anticipated, Full-time aide position for the 2021-2022 school year. This position is open to applicants with or without degree, location is Williamsport Area High School; subject to the determination of the Superintendent. Position is 7 hour/185 day, during the school day, prorated, and is subject to the minimum requirements listed on the Job Description which include, but are not limited to, a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. A written assessment with a score of 70% or higher is required for this position. Candidate must be willing to become certified in Safety-Care QBS. Candidate must also be willing to become First Aid & CPR certified. Qualifications for this position shall be based upon applicable verified work experience and verified educational/training/credentials. Basic Functions:

This position is primarily responsible for assisting the teacher/staff in providing instructional and/or support services to students. Such assistance could be provided to students in regular education programs or students with special needs, which may include physical assistance, educational assistance, or both. Such assistance could also be provided to at-risk students and their families. He/she should be comfortable instructing students by modeling desirable behaviors and skills. He/she should possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Work is performed under the supervision of a teacher (or professional staff member) and is reviewed while in progress and/or upon completion.

He/she may be required to provide assistance in the classroom, or specifically designated areas to include, but not limited to, computer labs, libraries, hallways, study halls, lavatories, cafeteria and/or playgrounds.


Education & Experience:

Subject to the provisions of No Child Left Behind Act of 2001: Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education, obtained an Associates (or higher) degree, or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics or to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate. Requires previous experience and a desire to assist and work with students with various educational, behavioral and physical needs. Licensed medical credentials will be required for designated positions.

This position may require participation in verbal de-escalation, conflict resolution and non-violent safe physical crisis intervention training provided by the District or appropriate agency.

This position requires current first aid and CPR training, when assigned to a personal care position.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

This position requires demonstrated patience and the ability to relate to students, parents, and all staff members, of all cultural backgrounds and experiences, in a manner that develops student confidence in benefiting from the educational process. Position may require the physical ability to provide assistance using non-violent safe crisis intervention procedures when controlling or preventing potentially violent situations. A written assessment with a score of 70% or better may be required, at the discretion of district administration. Requires a demonstrated desire to assist and work with students who have various educational and physical needs. Has the ability to diffuse disruptive situations. Requires the ability to understand and adjust to changes in the educational environment. Knowledge of general clerical practices and procedures is required.

  • Assists students on an individual and/or group basis answering questions, tutoring students (under teacher supervision), and providing physical assistance when necessary to assist the student(s) in meeting his/her needs. (E)
  • Works with building principals, teachers and parents to teach and model pro-social, desirable behavior and to modify students’ unacceptable or disruptive behavior (E)
  • Assists school personnel and/or student(s) to arrange the school’s environment to best meet the students’ physical and psychological needs. (E)
  • Collaborates with building principals, school staff, students and student families in forming positive relationships and modifying attitudes. (E)
  • Assists in student control and relieves the teacher and or supervisor of routine non-educational duties. (E)
  • Assists in the supervision of cafeteria, playground areas, lunch areas, bus areas, libraries, computer labs, hallways, study halls, lavatories, and other areas as designated by the building principal and/or supervisor. (E)
  • Demonstrates creativity and flexibility with the daily routine of the school day. (E)
  • Performs the ability to provide assistance using non-violent, safe crisis procedures, when properly trained. (E)
  • May be required to transport students when appropriate and deemed necessary, and make telephone calls/home contacts regarding student attendance issues.
  • Communicates effectively (orally and in writing) with administrators, staff, students and the public. (E)
  • Is able to speak and write in a clear and concise manner. (E)
  • Must possess a working knowledge of educational and office equipment and technology, including but not limited to email, voicemail, office software, computer, telephones, etc… (E)
  • Maintains confidentiality of all business related information. (E)
  • Requires 20 hours of professional development per year. (E)
  • Performs other related functions as directed by the Director and/or Supervisor(s) of Special Education, building principal(s) and/or designee(s). (E)

Physical Requirements:

Heavy-Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

This position may involve the controlling of others – seizing, holding, controlling and/or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive or physically threatening persons to defend self or prevent injury. In these cases, body strength and agility of all four limbs is required.


Auditory and Visual Requirements:

Within normal ranges with or without correction.
