The Town of Breckenridge is seeking an experience and dedicated attorney for the position of Town Attorney. The Town of Breckenridge is a home rule municipality & the Town’s home rule Charter requires the Town Council to appoint a Town Attorney to serve at the pleasure of the Town Council.

After serving the Town of Breckenridge for 34 years in an hourly capacity, the current Town Attorney is retiring. The Town desires to hire a new full-time, in-house attorney who will be appointed by Breckenridge Town Council. This provides a rare opportunity for a new individual to serve as the chief legal advisor and representative of the Town of Breckenridge.

The Town Attorney advises the Town Council, Mayor, Town Manager, Town departments, and other Town Boards and Commissions in a wide range of legal matters relating to their official powers and duties. The Town Attorney performs such other duties as the Town Council may prescribe by ordinance or resolution.

With unquestioned integrity and sound ethics rooted in justice, the incumbent for the Town Attorney position must be dedicated to public service for the benefit of the whole and work in the Town’s best interest at all times. The Town Attorney should have an inclusive and approachable style, develop positive relationships throughout the Town, and establish a high level of trust. The Town Attorney ideally has substantial local government law experience and will be able to leverage that knowledge to anticipate issues and proactively identify risk.
