Medical Assistant / Health Educator – BEAT AIDS Coalition Trust – Corpus Christi, TX

  • RESPONSIBILITIES: Medical Assistant / Health Educator is responsible for fulfilling the following duties:
  • 1. Provide pre- and post-test prevention counseling on HIV, Hep B, Hep C and Syphilis testing, risk reduction strategies.
  • 2. Work with prevention team to identify and establish rapport with high risk target populations.
  • 3. Maintain confidentiality on active clients’ files, and refer to appropriate services.
  • 4. Network with other agencies or existing available resources and services.
  • 5. Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports on a timely manner.
  • 6. Attend all scheduled supervisory, department, in-service and agency staffing.
  • 7. Participate and support Linkage Coordinator Educator Tester/Education activities.
  • 8. Function within the organizational guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • 9. Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly reports to supervisor.
  • 10. Prepare and maintain documentation on number tested, results given, number tested positive and Linkage Coordinator Educator Tester counseling reports.
  • 11. Engage clients in ongoing clinical services, to support maintenance and adherence, as part of safe and effective use of PrEP and nPEP.
  • 12. Assist with enrollment into public insurance plans during open enrollment periods or refer individuals to organizations who are able to assist with enrollment.
  • 13. Assist with facilitation of PCC and SNS interventions. 14. Assist Program Director with all other assigned duties. 15. Participate in continuing education required by agency. 16. Obtaining and recording patient medical histories, vitals, test results, and other information for medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • 17. Coordinating the daily administrative activities, including scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, and patient medical record maintenance.
  • 18. Preparing treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assisting practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care.
  • 19. Delivering compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
  • 20. Ensuring compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
  • 21. Preparing and administering medications for patients as directed by physicians.
  • 22. Perform HIV Rapid test
  • 23. Perform Outreach to meet Grant Objectives MINIMUM SKILLS: Demonstration of knowledge on HIV/STDs. Appropriate skills in verbal and written English communications. Ability to communicate, teach, and facilitate on an individual and group basis. Appropriate skills in the use of common computer software utilized in the workplace.
  • Must have certification from a medical assistant program or military medical corpsman program.
  • One to two years of experience in a medical setting.
  • Have a high school diploma, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent.
  • A basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, reference tools, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant practice scope.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical health care record systems.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 – $18.00 per hour
